Description

Rare - 1968 Chevrolet K20 (4x4) 3 door Suburban ( 1 of 299 made). Made in Flint, Michigan.

VIN # KS268F146910 Model: KS20906

This Suburban has been in my family since it was ordered andpurchased brandnew. This is the first vehicle I learned to drive as a kidand I am pretty familiar with this old Chevy. The miles are original.Itwas never driven too far from our farm. It has the low gearing and 4 speed manual transmission.

During the winter of 1978 / 1979 we would have frozen to death in Northern Illinois, had it not been for this truck. The snow accumulation wasbeyond comprehension, temps below -40 and no power for nearlyten days. That means no heat in the house! This old girl was our lifeline as 4x4s were pretty rare in those days. We needed whitekeroseneto keep the kerosene heaters going in our old drafty Sears and Roebuckfarm house.Old Bluewas the only vehicle that would start. I can vividly remember that cold miserable day. My dad placing achunk of Kendall motor oil ( Cardboard) behind the grill and in front of the radiator. Dad pouringa small amount of gas down the (1 barrel carburetor) and full choke in the hope and prayerit would start, because nothing else would. It started !Iplaced dads pliers in my nine year old hands and turned in the manual front hubs. We were going to attempt to make it to ourlittle farmtown 3 miles away for20 gallons of Kerosene. We made it and we lived !The Suburban was prettyawesome that day andI will never forget that experience.

Over the years weused"Old Blue"primarily as a farm truck to haul tools and pull trailers. The rear bumper is a DMI heavy duty farmbumper and we pulled fertilizer buggies and a water wagon when we raised hogs outdoors. We are locatedin Illinois and the winters and road salt ispretty harsh here thus the rusty body panels

In the mid 1990s we backedOld Blueinto the barn and weparked it. My dad no longer drove it and he had just retired from his off farmjob. We never knew this was such a rare vehicle ( only 299 made), until last year when wedid some research.

Condition: The frame and undercarriage is solid, miles are original. Needs a comprehensive and qualityrestoration. The rear quarter panels are very rusty.it was cheaplypainted in the early 1980s thus the redprimer as depicted in the photos on the hood etc. My dad was not a body man and just because the neighbor gives you a Binks #7 does not make you one.

This 68Suburban reallydeserves a"Kounts Customs" - type of (body off) restoration. It has sat for many years and the body is rough. The powertrain is in all there and the frame is solid. This is a legend of a vehicle and it really deserves to live on.

Reason for selling: My daddied andI cannot afford to restore this oldSuburban..

Please ask meyour questions before bidding. Thanks for looking at Old Blue.
