Description

This 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is one impressive luxury coupe. It offers a built 454, plenty of luxury features, an upgraded suspension, and a period-perfect color combination, making it a fantastic example of Chevy's best in 1970. Code 45 Green Mist is this car's original color, and that's what it's wearing today, albeit with a few upgrades. It was refinished a few years ago, including the gray SS stripes that aren't stock but sure look right on the big coupe. Today it shows very little wear, and if you want a dazzling Monte that will have people wondering why it looks so darned good, this is your car. It isn't a show car, but at the same time, it sure attracts a ton of attention when it's out in the open. Of course, as a car that spent its life someplace warm, the body panels were already in great condition, needing little more than a block sanding to get them flat and smooth before the paint went on. The cowl tag says it had a vinyl top, but that's long gone, and it neatly disguises the fact that this really is a rather large car. All the chrome, including the grille and emblems, is in excellent condition, and even the bright SS454 rocker panel moldings show very little road rash. The green vinyl is a rare find with bucket seats and a console in a non-SS model. It's a big upgrade over the standard bench and perfectly suits the Monte Carlo's luxury/performance mission. The interior is virtually new and the seats show very little wear and no damage, the carpets are so nice that I have to believe they've been replaced at some point. The burled walnut dash appliques are upscale and the round gauges look sporty and are in good original condition with bright letters and pointers, and a set of auxiliary dials hang under the dash. The Grant wood-rimmed wheel looks fantastic in the upscale interior and it's loaded with options like a tilt wheel, rear defroster, and power windows. The back seat has plenty of room for three across seating and the massive trunk is clean and tidy, complete with a new mat that looks right. Under that ultra-long hood a Matt Bishop built 454 cubic inch V8. There's a big Holley on top of a Summit air gap intake manifold, a Comp Cams camshaft inside that really thumps, and a full Mallory HEI ignition system. There's power on tap at any speed and it yanks the big coupe around like it weighs 800 pounds less than it does and sounds amazing doing it. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts easily, giving the Monte Carlo its luxury car personality, but a quick jab of the throttle summons an authoritative downshift that makes this big luxury cruiser feel light on its feet and the sound of the recent dual exhaust system with an X-pipe is downright intimidating. Underneath, it's a super clean southern car so there are no surprises, and the transmission cooler is neatly mounted to the floor. Rounding out the list of features are a set of giant 18-inch Legend wheels painted to match the SS stripes and fitted with 245/45/18 front and 295/45/18 rear performance radials. These are handsome, comfortable, and surprisingly fleet coupes that are gaining popularity as the mainstream muscle cars continue to appreciate. With lots of performance and a great look, this one is a great alternative. Call today!
