Description

1951 Chevrolet 3600 pickup truck
This is a pretty clean and solid old original pickup. It looks to be mostly original besides the tires maybe. I don't believe you can match the numbers on this model/year, but the engine looks original and is era correct. This pickup has a nice old patina. I would drive it as-is, but it's a great truck to use for a restoration too. Below are more details on the truck and I have more pics I can send also. Thank you.
BODY
This pickup has a solid body with very little rust. The rust that I have found is in the front floor pans. That very common for this bodystyle. The drivers side needs to be patched. The passenger side is solid still but has pinholes starting some. It wouldn't need to be repaired for a driver/rat patina type ride. Very minor rust on the drivers side rear cab corner. It would be an easy patch to do. No rust on the drivers side cab corner. Doors shut good. Tailgate still opens/closes fine. Passenger side door has had light bodywork/filler done. It's old and you can see that it's not thick. Paint of course is not good but it has a cool looking patina. It has some dings but no large dents. Roof is really straight too. The box floor had sheetmetal put in over the original wood. It needs some glass. It's all flat and easy to have made but all the glass is available online. Overall, the body is real solid for a driver, or a nice start for a restoration.
MECHANICAL
This has what looks to be the original 216. I've read some early 235's had the old style valve cover. I'm not an expert on these engines and I don't know for sure which engine it is and if it's original. It could be original and it looks to be. The engine starts right up every time. This has the floor-engaged starter. Choke works and it starts up nice and idles fine. It doesn't smoke and has no blowby. I lost the oil cap, which is why it has tape on it. The brakes work. This has a 4-speed with granny low and reverse. It works and shifts fine. I have only driven this fast enough to test all the gears. The tires are old and bad and it doesn't drive good. It will need shocks and tires. It should have the fluids changed, basic tuneup, and new exhaust. All the work needed on this truck is basic and cheap. It needs a new ignition switch. Some of the original wiring is bad. It is cheap and easy to rewire a truck like this and it should be done. Some basic kits are about $100 I believe to rewire. The lights work and the generator does work though. Gas tank has been cleaned. The radiator leaks and needs repaired. These may be cheap new, as popular as these trucks are, but I didn't get around to getting one. Overall, it needs some mechanical work but nothing major.
INTERIOR
This truck didn't have much for interior new, and it does need re-done. The doorpanels and headliner are gone. The seat upholstery is gone, so it needs re-covered of course. There is no floormat. The dash isn't cut up. All new upholstery is probably cheap for this, including seat upholstery.
