This 1968 Camaro "RS" has been the subject of a complete restoration by its long time owner. A considerable investment in mechanical and cosmetic upgrades has resulted in a classic with improved performance, reliability, appearance, and safety while retaining the cars classic 60's muscle car look. The Camaro represents a great, high-end driver that can be used for local cruises and shows, and is sure to receive considerable attention wherever it goes! We have listed a number of the Camaros features by category, but they represent a summary since the files for the restoration are very thick containing extensive receipts including those for repairs, new parts, product brochures, performance upgrades, and a zip drive with before & after restoration photos. Frankly, the car's owner is reluctant to add up the receipts, but we know from experience that the cost of a restoration of this quality is very high, not to mention the countless hours dedicated to the process of disassembling the car, renovating and replacing parts, and building the car. This car was a labor of love, with the car being built as a Camaro the owner thought he would own and enjoy forever. We have seen a number of cars that were built to "flipâ€, auction cars where the buyers have no opportunity to review build information and other history on the car, and other inferior builds. While some of these cars present a good appearance, some fall into the category of "pigs with lipstick." This is not one of those cars.
HISTORY
This history of this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible (VIN # 124678L333602 ) indicates that the car was originally delivered with a V8 (supported by the VIN#) and factory 4-speed manual transmission. The VIN # and trim tag decode as follows:
124678L333602
12467 = 8 cylinder
L = LOS (Los Angeles Production)
33602 = Production sequence
TRIM TAG DECODING
09D = Build Date - (4th Week of September, 1968)
ST68 = 1968
12467 = Convertible
TR = Black Interior/Standard
J= Rallye Green Exterior /White Convertible Top
MECHANICAL
Reportedly, the original numbers matching engine was completely rebuilt as part of the restoration. However, when the engine was decked, the block identifying numbers were removed, but the cars owner indicates that the engine was numbers matching. A summary of the extensive rebuild and mechanical components / trim is as follows:
EXTERIOR
INTERIOR
COSMETIC CONDITION
The Jewel Metallic red paint is high gloss with nor sings of paint preparation, orange peel, or other defects. It was completed to a high standard, and and shows very well. The car is free from accident damage, and any minor imperfections from limited use do not detract from the appearance of the Camaro. All of the bright work including the stainless trim, chrome bumpers, and RS emblems are in fine condition. The black and red interior is in beautiful condition and was completely re-done at the time of the restoration including new seats reupholstered to match the exterior, new carpet, coor panels, gauges, painted dash (body color), new switches and wiring, new convertible )canvas) top, and much more (refer to "Interior') for details.
The engine compartment is very clean, highly detailed and fitted with a large number of dress-up items. The trunk is fitted with a high end audio system. There are no signs of rust in the trunk area, or rear window area (a common source of rust for "rust zone" cars). The floor, chassis,m and suspension components are free from rust and damage and show very well (refer to undercarriage photos). The underside of the car reflects the mechanical upgrades (upgraded suspension, headers, free-flow exhaust, frame connectors, etc.).
The current odometer reading is 1,970 and was reset when the restoration was completed. Based on the age of the Camaro and lack of Car Fax on an automobile of this vintage, we are showing the vehicle as "total mileage unknown.â€
Overall, the Camaro is a striking example with desirable upgrades that can be proudly cruised, taken to car shows, and appreciated by a wide range of enthusiasts and Camaro aficionados. The extensive photographs accurately reflect the car's excellent condition including the body, paint, engine compartment, interior and underside.
OTHER
HISTORY OF THE 1968 CHEVROLET CAMARO
Thefirst-generationappeared in dealerships on September 29, 1966,for the 1967 model year on an all brand new rear-wheel driveGM F-body platformand would be available as a 2-door,2+2seat,coupeorconvertiblewith a choice ofsix-cylinderandV8powerplants. The first-gen Camaro would last up through the 1969 model year.
There were three main packages, the RS, the SS and the Z/28.
TheRSwas an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim.
TheSSperformance package consisted of a 350 or 396 cu in V8 engine and chassis upgrades for better handling and to deal with the additional power. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging.
TheZ/28performance package included a solid-lifter 302 V8, 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes, and two wide stripes down the hood and deck lid.
The styling of the 1968 Camaro was very similar to the 1967 design. With the introduction of Astro Ventilation, a fresh-air-inlet system, the side vent windows were deleted. Side marker lights were added on the front and rear fenders which was a government requirement for all 68 vehicles. It also had a more pointed front grille and divided rear taillights. The front running lights (on non-RS models) were also changed from circular to oval. The shock absorber mounting was staggered to resolve wheel hop.
Almost all of 1967-1969 Camaros were built in the two U.S. assembly plants: Norwood, Ohio and Van Nuys, California. Production numbers:

PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER
As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to:
·How long have they been in business?
·How much experience do they have with collector cars?
·How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)?
·How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle?
·Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance?
·Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction?
·What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license?
·Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances?
·Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation?
·Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?
ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD.
·We have been the same, small, California town for over 25 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles.
·The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair.
·We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source.We strive to achieve 100% positive feedback on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions.
·We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive.We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods.Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping.
·Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 975+ positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World.
·We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World.
·Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions
·We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area.
MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION
·As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet.
·In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers are subject to sales tax, documentation fee, DMV transfer fees, and license and registration.Out of state buyers are responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle with any local fees, taxers, etc. being paid in their respective state.IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California, applicable California sales tax, license, registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law.
·While we encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail and ask that you call us at 925-846-1451 if we can answer any questions about the vehicle, Classic Car Ltd, or shipping costs to your location.
·We encourage inspections by interested buyers or professional inspectors. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time.
·As with any collectible vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd.
·Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle.Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars.Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant.That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!!
The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources.As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information.We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
·Buyers outside of California will be responsible for a $195.00 fee for processing / administration. The charge will apply if the vehicle is purchased through eBay or before or after the auction directly through Classic Cars Ltd.
·We reserve the right to end the auction prior to the scheduled auction close date. We will be glad to discuss details of a "pre-auction" purchase (925) 846-1451.
·Inspections of vehicles are encouraged but (by appointment) must be completed within 24 hours of the end of the auction.
·Out of state buyers are responsible for the high bid and shipping costs. California buyers are subject to the appropriate sales tax, DMV transfer, and fees associated with the purchase of any used vehicle sale in the state of California.
·To avoid shipping the title with the car to our out of state buyers, we mail the title and other transfer documents via Priority Mail.Larger items and parts will be shipped with the vehicle.
·While shipping and transportation costs (if appropriate) are the responsibility of the winning bidder, we can assist with locating a suitable transporter. We regularly ship cars all over the USA/World, and can often times locate very competitive rates for transporting vehicles door to door, to a local terminal, enclosed, open, etc. Please call us for specific information/rates to your location.
·We meet some great people and fellow enthusiasts, and only rarely do we have problems with non-paying bidders. Please be certain that you are prepared to buy the car if you bid, or call us at 925-846-1451 before the end of the auction if we can answer any questions.
