I purchased the car a year ago from the son of the original owners. The car was purchased from Fletcher Chevrolet in Encino California on January 26th, 1967.Total price $3843.04. I obtained significant original documentation with the car including the original dealer invoice, warranty documents, owner’s manual, original CA registration and much more. Washington title is clear and in my name.


Until the day I purchased and loaded the car on the trailer it had sat in the same spot in a large private shop since 1992. Since that day the car has been subject to a complete mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment at Rule Garage in Tacoma Washington. The goal with the car was to keep it as original as possible, save as much patina as was practical and to make the car drive better than new. No area of the car was left untouched in the process.


-Engine removed, inspected and resealed (engine is a dealer replacement 327 from the distant past) (upon inspection of the bearings and internal components it was decided to run it without having it rebuilt, it is very clean and in excellent condition)

-Powerglide transmission was replaced with a fresh rebuilt 700r4. The transmission received the Corvette type upgrades. It shifts crisply and the lock-up converter works perfectly.

-Front brakes converted from drum to later GM discs that fit under the original color matched steel wheels. Rear brakes rebuilt. All new hydraulic components including brake hoses.

-New white wall tires installed including matching spare

-All wear components in suspension were replaced including control arm bushings, rear leaf spring bushings, front springs, anti-roll bar bushings, inner and outer tie-rod ends and idler and pitman arms. Polyurethane used sparingly to increase performance without inducing harshness

-New cooling system including correct ‘big block’ radiator and shroud and re-cored original heater core. Whole heater box and duct-work have been cleaned and resealed along with new air duct hoses installed.

-Fuel system completely refreshed utilizing the original fuel tank which is in excellent condition.

-Interior received new carpet, headliner (a white headliner was installed which closely matched the custom one that came with the car). New rear seat cover, package tray and dash pad. The rest was refreshed while retaining patina.

-All electrical systems, lights, heater controls, headlight doors, back-up lights, clock etc. work as they should.

-Reproduction factory dual exhaust was installed in place of the single exhaust that the car came with originally.

-The only components not restored were the original A/C compressor, the Smog Pump, and the AM Radio. These items were left to the discretion of the new owner whether to be restored or replaced with modern units. All A/C components are in place and there is still charge in the system. Smog Pump is missing the drive pulley and needs an internal rebuild. Original Smog system hoses are in place.

The body of the car is all original steel. The only rust found on the car was the lower portion of the center trunk floor. That area was cut out and a new piece was fully welded in place and then refinished to match with AC Delco trunk paint.

When the car came in the shop it was about half covered with red primer. Much time was spent stripping off the red paint to reveal the minor scratches and scuffs from a long ago prep job for repaint. The car has been repainted once in the original color after it was recovered from being stolen. As the story goes, in 1977 the car was stolen from the owners’ home in Van Nuys and was discovered exactly two years later by a sharp-eyed LAPD street cop on patrol in Watts. I have a copy of the police report and the recovering officers’ business card! It was told to me that the wife of the gentleman that stole the car contacted the owners and wanted to buy the car back because she loved it so much! They declined the offer. The son eventually inherited the car and brought it to Washington where it was stored until I purchased it.

The car runs and drives fantastic and gets lots of attention due to the originality of the finish. It is very comfortable and quiet, tracks perfectly and has plenty of power with very smooth acceleration. It truly is a classic car that you could enjoy every day.

It is worth mentioning that before the dash, heater box and carpet were installed, new factory replacement sound deadening material was installed on the firewall, under-hood, on the floor and behind the rear seat back. Furthermore, all door seals, window anti-rattle strips, vent window gaskets and the trunk seal were replaced. Lock cylinders in doors, trunk and glove box were replaced and a very cool NOS ignition key was sourced from a local locksmith and cut to fit the original ignition switch.
There are so many details (and expenses) to a project like this it is hard to comprehend. It was a very fun project and last weekend we took the opportunity to drive the car back to the fellow we purchased the car from so he could see it back on the road after all these years. He was thrilled to see and hear it again. He told us from the beginning that we wouldn't find a more solid and complete first year Camaro. I believed it then and still do now that he was right.
