Description

Thank you for taking time to look at this rare Corvette

Typically, when the top goes down, the price goes up. The 1963 Corvette may be the only exception. Even though an equal number of coupes and convertibles were produced, many of the convertibles have been used as donor cars for the coupes. Many knowledgeable collectors think there may be fewer convertibles now than coupes.

This 1963 roadster has a 4 speed transmission, 250 HP 327CI engine, positraction rear endand soft top. The 250 HP engine has the most torque of all the non-fuel injected engines. So it is very quick. What makes it particularly rare is this car has not been restored. This is one of the finest examples of a perfectly preserved classic Corvette. The original inspection markings, build number (marked on the fiberglass with a crayon) and other factory markings are as from the factory.

As the photo's show, most of the original factory markings remain in the car. Note the VIN number tag. The original VIN tag was spot welded to the bird cage. In the beginning, the spot welds where made through the paint, which made the attachment weak. Many early production the tags would fall off. Not long into production, the paint was ground off area where the VIN tag was attached, making the spot weld adhere. If the area of the VIN tag has paint, it may not be attached in the original fashion. This could disqualify the car from judging. Also note the engine pad (VIN number followed by F0I29RC) has the correct and original broach marks.

The originality is supported by numerous NCRS Top Flight Awards (the latest in 2007) and a NCRS Founders Award. I rarely drive the car, only enough to exercise it and keep it in top mechanical condition. And less than 500 miles since the 2007 Top Flight. The Top Flights are representative of the cars current condition. At the 2007 event, this preserved original out-scored the two restored coupes at the event. I believe the car is in better judging condition now than it was in 2007.

This Corvette runs and handles like a dream. I would not hesitate to take it on a road trip. Since it does get driven, it does show some wear. But as you can see, the paint has been well taken care of. All the gages work, including the clock. The headlight motors, lights, warning lights, everything. It is an early 63, so it has the AM radio with the wonderbar signal seeker (which also works as original). I've been an NCRSmember and judge for over 20 years. Preserved cars or more and more difficult to find and more coveted by knowledgeable collectors.

This, with all the original pieces (to many to list), make this a truly rare and unique investment.

NADA Guides price = $91,000. Edmunds price = $95,000.
