If you do a resto-mod right, you still have an old car, but one that feels like it has taken a sip from the Fountain of Youth. This 1968 Camaro certainly fits the bill, with a fantastic look that doesnt cut corners on the original styling, yet delivers a healthy dose of power, comfort, and convenience items that weve grown to expect in our modern hardware.At first glance, it might look like just another Hugger Orange Camaro, but please, come see this one in the sunlight before you decide. Its actually covered in spectacular House of Kolor Sunset Pearl, which has an incredible glow to it that makes the car look like a California sunset on four wheels. Its so stunning, our photos just cant do it justice, no matter how hard we tried. Black SS stripes give it the proper dose of attitude and have been buried under the clear for a seamless feel and a distinctive high-tech look. An RS front grille with hidden headlights looks awesome on the early Camaro bodywork, and the stock hood remains in place, chrome inserts and all, which is a refreshing change from all the cowl induction units youll see at the car show. Nothings been shaved or deleted, so people will be attracted to this car without even knowing why, although that glowing paint job and the great stance certainly have a lot to do with it.The best resto-mods keep the best original features, and this car nails it with black and white houndstooth upholstery, a center console with optional gauges and Tic-Toc-Tach, and a few cleverly hidden upgrades. Perhaps the most notable update is the armrest grafted on to the original center console, which also offers a pair of cupholders. Theres also a Hurst shifter, but it now stirs five gears instead of four and youll note the placard on the console has been changed to match. And unlike a vast majority of vintage Camaros, this one has A/C (complete with R134a refrigerant for easy maintenance) and a hidden AM/FM/iPod stereo system from Secret Sound.Those badges on the front fenders are no lie, this one packs a high-revving 327 cubic inch small block. Equipped with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and custom camshaft, it snarls like no stock Camaro ever did thanks to a stainless Flowmaster exhaust system. Its nicely finished in Chevy Orange with stock valve covers and a chrome air cleaner wearing a repro decal. Its also possible that this is a real RS, as experts will note the solenoid valve on the windshield wiper motor for cleaning the headlights. The front suspension is a coil-over subframe from Martz Chassis which includes rack-and-pinion steering. The Tremec 5-speed feeds a 3.55 gearset that hangs on a custom quadra-link rear suspension with Koni coil-overs.
