Description

Big engine, big tires, and big performance are the essence of pro-street, and this 1987 Chevrolet Camaro delivers on every count. With a stunning custom paint job, a stout small block stroker motor, and that race car look, this Camaro more than lives up to the promises made by its outrageous look. The paint alone reportedly cost more than $26,000 and it shows. It's just beautifully done and the graphics on the side are hand painted, not a decal, so you can imagine the amount of time that must have taken. Finish quality is exceptional, with a deep shine, panel gaps that are likely better than new, and, of course, the towering scoop in the middle, which is a key element of the pro-street look. The Camaro wears the drag strip look rather well, those big quarter panels able to handle the oversized meats without too many external modifications, so it retains its F-body DNA. The paint is truly spectacular, and that high-visibility look is a big part of the pro-street look, because race cars are often brightly painted as well. You'll also notice that this car includes all the street-legal parts required, including lights, signals, mirrors, and even factory Z/28 fog lamps up front. You won't be overlooked when you show up in this car.The interior is pure industrial-strength performance, with high-back aluminum racing seats, a full cage with removable door bars, and lots of bare aluminum sheetmetal. The workmanship is extremely impressive, definitely professional-grade, and despite the hardcore look, it remains fairly user-friendly. The steering wheel is a leather-wrapped Grant piece, there's a trick Hurst shifter for the PowerGlide underneath, and a full array of Auto Meter gauges to supplement the factory dials, which still live in the dash. You'll also note that it has a tilt steering column and power windows, so it's even a little bit civilized. That polished aluminum sheetmetal work cost nearly $10,000 all by itself and really makes this car pop. Of course, there's also race hardware like a Biondo delay box, an auxiliary switch panel, and RCI 5-point harnesses. There is no trunk, but where the trunk used to live is simply spectacular, showcasing the wheel tubs and fuel cell all surrounded by all that polished aluminum. The engine is a 383 cubic inch Chevy stroker motor built by Stuart Matthews. It's based on a Dart little M block with Dart aluminum heads, a high-rise intake, and a full roller valvetrain. With 10:1 compression, it's still quite streetable and doesn't mind a diet of pump gas, but again, pieces like the electric water pump and external Jessel timing belt, it makes the line between street and race rather blurry. The engine bay is beautifully detailed with lots of beautiful burgundy paint and polished aluminum, and the workmanship is exceptional, as it is throughout the car. There's a big aluminum radiator up front that helps keep it cool, and the headers are wrapped to reduce heat and likely because it looks butch, too. There's a pro-built PowerGlide 2-speed automatic transmission with a 4000 RPM stall torque converter that feeds a custom Dana 60 rear end with 3.73 gears inside, and the narrowed rear hangs on a 4-link suspension. The stock Camaro front suspension is still there, including the front sway bar, and there's a disc brake at each corner. Long-tube headers feed a thundering 3inch exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers, so the sound is simply spectacular. Shiny Weld wheels carry traditional big-n-little tires, which is 90% of the pro-street look.Beautifully built at a cost of over $100,000 and with just 200 test and tune miles, this amazing Camaro has never been driven in anger.
