BODYWORK/TRIM
As with any high caliber classic, this Chevy's paint and bodywork is first-rate throughout. Smooth Tuxedo Black base is seated under Classic White Super Sport stripes and buried in glossy clear. That pigment highlights carefully sculpted steel which, when combined with the car's clean frame, documents a 3-year, $125K restoration. That ground-up reboot certainly sweats the details, featuring finish work that's befitting a rarely driven trailer queen. And naturally, everything has been professionally sanded and carefully buffed to a weather-enduring shine.
Many enthusiasts believe the '70 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements which transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's '69 model into something 'great'. At the front of this retro road rocket you'll find a familiar crossbar grille, which hangs a fresh and prominent "SS" emblem between stainless-trimmed headlights and a thick chrome bumper. Above that bumper, a cowl induction hood anchors traditional lanyards and rebuilt Hide-A-Way wipers at the base of like-new glass that's flanked by straight stainless frames and a monochromatic top. Opposite that top, subtle "SS454" badges combine with dent-free fender trim, traditional chrome door handles and flashy chrome mirrors to add visual detail to the car's liquid-smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper hangs a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lamps and polished stainless exhaust tips.
ENGINE
Hoist this drop-top's mirror-slick hood and you'll find 454 cubic inches of GM Performance Parts ZZ454 big block that twists stout 9.6 to 1 compression into 440 horsepower and 500 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the mighty mill, a simple chrome air cleaner funnels wind into a reliable Quick Fuel carburetor that's sequenced to a polished fuel line, a braided fuel line and a Quick Fuel pressure regulator. Below that carb, a lightweight aluminum intake feeds 110cc oval-port heads, which hide stamped steel rocker arms under polished valve covers. Those rockers move thanks to a hydraulic roller cam, which spins between a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. At the back of that cam, an FBO points distributor shoots fire through eight Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, restored exhaust manifolds jettison spent gases in to free-flowing tail pipes. And cooling comes courtesy of a heavy duty radiator that's finished with "GM" branded hoses and a correct plastic shroud. Aesthetically, this road ready Chevelle's glossy exterior paint transitions nicely in to a clean engine bay that features a very high level of detail. And correct markings and fresh decals combine with a rebuilt brake booster and reproduction Delco battery to add a factory-finished sheen.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
The theme of 'road ready' also extends under this fully restored Super Sport where you'll find super clean floors and a rebuilt, factory-accurate chassis. Behind the stout engine, a Borg Warner T10 4-speed sends power to a correct, 12-bolt rear end that's fitted with familiar, 3.31 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is an option F41 double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension, which is equipped with factory power steering, heavy duty sway bars, boxed rear control arms and stiffer springs. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brake system is present, accounted for and functions exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases into high performance, true-dual pipes that breathe through raspy, dual-chamber mufflers. And power flows to the pavement via stylish Super Sport Wheels and G70-14 Firestone tires. The car's frame, free of any major damage, is finished in satin as a textural contrast to its Tuxedo Black floors. And, in keeping with its raucous 454, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under this Chevelle is clean, mean and ready to go!
INTERIOR
Featuring a host of new components, and decked in bright Ivory vinyl, this convertible's fully restored interior feels both comfortable and inviting. Its slick front bucket and rear bench seats, which feature embossed weave patterns that were designed to keep passenger's backs cool, show hardly any signs of wear. In front of those seats, a straight and crack-free dash hangs a deluxe Chevelle gauge cluster above correct climate controls and a snazzy Custom Autosound stereo. Below that dash, fresh black carpet, which is protected by rugged rubber floor mats, centers a chrome Muncie shifter inside an attractive, stainless-trimmed console. At the sides of that carpet, clean door panels hang spotless stainless trim between crank windows and factory door locks. In front of the driver, a black, "SS" branded steering wheel keeps everybody pointed in the right direction. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk centers a full-size spare tire and correct jack assembly between a new mat and correct decklid decals.
