Description

1989 Chevrolet Corvette

70,900 Original Miles!

Set Up For SCCA Track Days And Autocross

This is a 1989 Chevy Corvette. Here is the story of the car's life:

The car was sold brand-new at Stevinson Chevrolet in Colorado to James W*****e. He actually leased it initially (I'm told it was his wife's daily driver first!), and loved the car so much that he bought it outright after the lease ended. He knew what he was going to do. After he owned the car free and clear, he began to run the car in Autocross. He realized he was doing well with a stock car, as well as how much better he could do with some mods! He decided to compete in SCCA-Sanctioned Track Days at road courses such as Pike's Peak and High Springs. (Apparently) Stevinson Chevrolet decided to provide some level of sponsorship as indicated by their logo on the hood. James decided to install a complete Vette Brakes & Products fully-adjustable suspension system, including their toe rods, strut rods, trailing rods, bushings, shock absorbers and specific mono-leaf springs to lower the cars center of gravity. Even with the aftermarket performance suspension, the ride quality is markedly improved over a stock C4!! A heavy-duty aluminum brace was added behind the seats and the 5-point safety harness was attached to it. He mounted a fire extinguisher behind the Passenger Seat. There is a Master Shutoff at the Battery. He installed a slick ducting system that directs cool air from under the lower front bumper to cool the front brakes. Mechanically, James opened up the air induction system, deleted the catalytic converter and ran a full dual-exhaust system to let the engine breathe. A Performance PROM Chip helped enhance the cars acceleration after its mods.

He decided to pattern the car after the famous Corvette Challenge cars and added the Sponsor Decals, Class Designation and ID numbers. He even bought a set of Ultra-Rare DYMAG Corvette-Spec lightweight magnesium racing wheels for his Track Tires!! Also added is the hard-to-find Full Greenwood Aero Kit including the Deep Rear Diffuser.

James had fun with the car for several years. In the early 2000's he stopped racing due to some health issues and the car stayed in his climate-controlled garage. For the next fourteen years the car was used in some local parades every year and for very little else but an occasional ride when he felt good. He and his wife moved to Florida in 2015 and James passed on last year. I worked with their Pastor last year to purchase the car from his widow, who filled in as many of the above details as she could remember.

The car itself is amazing!! The paint under the (removable) decals is All-Original Nassau Blue Metallic. There are some scratches and two little bruises seen in the photos from “Cone Kills” but the finish is in excellent condition for almost thirty years old! The factory 17” wheels are not completely pitted and worn or bounced off curbs; they are very nicely preserved! They wear a set of OE-Spec Goodyear Eagle ZR40 “Gatorbacks” that have plenty of tread but they are old. All of the lights are in excellent condition; headlights go up and down smoothly. It also has Anti-Lock Brakes and the Optional (functioning well) Tire Pressure Monitoring System!

The interior is the matching Bright Blue Leather in really excellent condition. Very minor (expected) upper outside bolster wear on Driver Seat as seen in photos but the leather is supple and comfy. Dashboard has ZERO CRACKS and the electronic instrument cluster works PERFECTLY!! Cold A/C and Hot Heat. Everything works as it should. Removable glass roof panel has a minor stress crack seen in photos; does not affect its seal. Electric instrument cluster works great; no fading etc. Mr. W*****e was fanatical about this car; it was his baby and his dream. It was trailered to all of its events and kept in climate controlled storage its whole life under a cover (which I have and will include). It runs, drives and stops better than any C4 I've ever driven. The L98 pulls hard with surprising mid- and top-end grunt. The 700R4 transmission shifts great and behaves well. The Locking Differential is quiet and the car makes no weird noises at all. Runs cool and sounds great! See the pictures.....there is NOT ONE DRIP OR SEEP OF FLUIDS under this car!! The car is extremely well-balanced, refined yet truly a “point and shoot” drive, and EVERYBODY looks at and admires this car at car shows and while driving. Get ready to be noticed!

These cars are still HIGHLY COMPETETIVE in SCCA classes and in Autocross, and this car will surprise a lot of people. It's very well-sorted-out, perfectly modified for Track or street use. Have you been wanting to get into Autocross or Track Days but you're on a budget? This car is a set of sticky tires away from low track times and BIG fun!! Want a cool car for car shows and cruise-ins that gets attention everywhere is goes? Here you are, and it's reliable as can be! Just looking for a low-mileage original-paint C4 with a twist? Remove the decals and here it is. I love this car, but a real-estate investment has come up that will require its sale.

BONUS!!!!

Hit the Buy It Now button and the deal will include the ULTRA-RARE original unrestored CORVETTE-Specific DYMAG Lightweight Magnesium wheels in great condition, for your track tires. They are made to accept the factory 1988-1989 Corvette center cap for a smooth factory look. These wheels were manufactured for Corvette Challenge cars (“CORVETTE” stamped into the face of one of the spokes) and Callaway Corvettes (which would have “CALLAWAY” stamped into the face of one of the spokes). These wheels are in high demand and are worth OVER $2,000!! Look them up on the 'Net and in the forums to verify my claim (I saw some as high as $3500!). The wheels are not included in the sale other than hitting Buy It Now, but can be negotiated on any successful sale for extra money.

On Feb-01-17 at 13:42:39 PST, seller added the following information:

Hello, and thank you for your questions. I want to address the Auto Check report that shows a Duplicate title and an odometer reading in question by some. I'm addressing this to assure the bidders/watchers that there is no problem, and certainly no alteration to the odometer. The issue is documented by the dates on the AutoCheck report. I purchased the vehicle on November 15th of last year and was given the incorrect title by the owners widow. Apparently there was a subsequent title issued to the owner that the widow had no knowledge of. When I went to take legal ownership of the car Novem the current odometer reading was recorded that day by the State Of Florida but they would not issue me a title unless I could produce the correct title for the car. The owners widow contacted the State of Colorado DMV and twelve days later a Duplicate title of the last Colorado title with Colorado's last recorded odometer reading (exactly as shown on the AutoCheck entry from 1996) was issued to Mrs. W*****e, which she then signed over to me so I could obtain ownership. There was no "rollback"...... just issues that can occur when you deal with an estate. Trust me I was VERY UPSET when this happened, but after three weeks of waiting I was able to straighten this out. The car has less than 71,000 Original Miles and it shows in the condition of the car. If you have any other questions regarding this please reach out for me. Thanks!
