We did it again; we have another mid-1960s big block, bruiser ready to roll here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. We are proud to present a 1965 Chevrolet Impala Convertible that we are selling for a local client.

Dressed in a Blue Mist finish, with a white, power-folding top, this car cuts an excellent figure. It was built here in St. Louis, Missouri at General Motors’ former assembly plant. Its paint and trim are in excellent order. The windows are clear and haze-free. The vehicle’s lights are clear, including the headlights with reflective half-lens covers. The car rolls on Uniroyal Tiger Paw rubber, 245/45ZR18 in front and 275/40ZR18 in back. Those tires surround five-spoke, charcoal gray alloy wheels with Chevrolet center caps. The bumpers are clean and shiny and the dual exhausts end as Chevrolet bowties. This car is a full-sized racing convertible; the only driver assist feature is power brakes.

The car’s body panels are straight and solid as the car underwent a major restoration, totaling more than $4,600. Under the hood is a big-block 396 CID V-8 engine, with a four-barrel carburetor and a 10.25:1 compression ratio. The engine bay is in tidy condition and the battery appears new. The speedo tends to read higher, most likely due to the wheel change.

Inside, the blue vinyl bench seats are in excellent condition, with the matching carpeting in very good order. The blue instrument panel is in very good shape, too, bringing back memories of the Beach Boys and Elvis Presley. The three-spoke, aftermarket steering wheel sports a wooden rim and appears to be a rim blow model. The door panels are in great shape while the mirror glass is in good shape. Riding atop the transmission tunnel is a B&M floor shifter. Completing the interior is a factory AM radio. While the car does have a power top, the cylinders were disconnected due to a leak. The top does function manually currently.

Redesigned in 1965, the Impala set an all-time industry annual sales record of more than one million units in the U.S. All new full-size Chevrolets eschewed the “X” frame for a full-width perimeter frame, a new body which featured curved, frameless side glass (for pillarless models), sharper angled windshield with newly reshaped vent windows, and redesigned full-coil suspension.

In 1965, engine choices included the inline six-cylinder as well as the small-block and big-block V8s. A new three-range Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was optional for 396 CID V8. The old 409 CID “W” engine was discontinued early in the 1965 model year, so early-production 1965s got the 409, as well as 1/10 of one percent had the 396 CID big-block. Other later-built cars had the 396 CID as the big-block option. Two-speed Powerglide, as well as three- and four-speed manual transmissions were available. As with previous years, Impalas featured more chrome trim inside and out, with pleated tufted upholstery and door panels.

Competition to this Impala in 1965 was Dodge’s Polara 500 Convertible with 413 CID V-8, Ford’s Galaxie 500 Convertible with 390 CID V-8 and Oldsmobile’s Dynamic 88 Convertible Super Rocket.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 74,741 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, exempt mileage title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
