Description

1976 Chrysler Cordoba – 400 Big Block w/46k original miles

Here is an original 46,000 mile 1976 Chrysler Cordoba original big block car from Oklahoma. I purchased thiscar in December 2015 and had it shipped from Oklahoma. In the spring of 2016, I experienced an issue with the engine and decided to remove, rebuild and upgrade the original 400 big block to some level of performance. The 400 had an issue with abroken valve guide on cylinder #7 and piston scuff in cylinder # 5.

The original 400 block has been bored .10 over (basically 440 pistons .30 over). Pistons are custom forged aluminum JE with full floating Chevy pins to include the connecting rods being bushed to accept the pins and a NEW compression ratio of around 9:7:1 (The original compression ratio was 8:2:1). Comp cam with matching lifters and springs. The original 452 heads were tossed in favor of 1967 – 915 casting heads with 2.08/1.74 valves. The exhaust valves have harden seats to accept today’s fuel. The original cast crank was tossed in favor of a 383 forged steel piece and has the same 3.38 stroke as the original crank. The mains have ARP studs along with ARP rod bolts. There is now a windage tray along with a high pressure (not volume) oil pump. The exhaust manifolds are 1973/74 high performance connected to Tube Technologies (TTI) 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust system with h-pipe.The original 25 gallon fuel tank had to be replaced with a factory 19/20 gallon unit in order to fit the dual exhaust tailpipes. For carburetion, there is a Street Demon 600 carb with the new “Goggle” valve design.A factory modified dual snorkel air cleaner tops the engine. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer with the factory emblem removed to hide the after market part and to give it a more OEM look. All the pulleys and brackets are Powder Coated. The engine was repainted along with the K-Frame/Engine Cradle and the entire engine bay when the engine was removed. The engine was rebuilt by Thomas Performance Engines of Syracuse, New York (A well respected and trusted engine builder).Approx horsepower rating is around 350-375 hp which is a lot better than the original 180 hp rating of 1976.

The original 727 Torqueflite transmission was also removed, rebuilt by local transmission expert Ray Miller of East Syracuse, New York and re-installed.

I installed a new radiator as the original was getting kind of crusty. This also means a new water pump and thermostat too to go along with the entire engine rebuild.

The brakes system had a new master cylinder installed and are in great shape.

New BF Goodrich TAs have been installed (Pictures will be uploaded).

Air Conditioning Compressor has been resealed, new gaskets by Thruway Auto Glass of Syracuse, New York. The lines for the AC just need to be re-installed and recharged. The AC worked when I first purchased the car back in 2015.

The body is SOLID, SOLID, SOLID original sheet metal, mostly original paint along with 40+ years of scratches and dings. The chrome bumpers are in great shape along with all the trim. The interior is in great shape for its age with one crack on the dash pad and the driver’s seat shows just a little wear. The car is super clean and your probably won’t find another one in this area sporting all the upgrades.

Here are the factory options originally installed on the car:

400 big block (originally 2 brrl Holley carb) now 4 brrl Street Demon carb.

Leather interior (Still soft and comfortable)

Bucket seats

Power driver’s seat

Console with floor shift

8-track player

Cruise Control

Fender mounted turn signal indicators (they still work)

Opera Lights (they still work)

Power Disk Brakes

Power Windows (they still work)

9 1/4 axle with 3.21 gears and a factory Sure Grip (That means a posi unit).

Power Disk Brakes

Tilt Steering Column

This car is absolutely a gorgeous vehicle for being 43 year old and will look great in your driveway. It runs great and has been well maintained and modern upgrades to make it better than in 1976. You can have the performance and luxury of a mid 1970s car. These cars are actually starting to rise in value as the generational shift from the muscle cars era takes place to the cars that people remember driving.
