For sale is this 1974 Datsun 260Z 260 Z - Series Manual Project
Every Z car deserves a home, and here is your opportunity to bring this one to yours. She needs a new lease on life and should be restored. This 1974 Datsun 260Z needs some attention throughout. Comes with a clear title. Many original parts. Matching numbered engine and a manual gearbox. There’s rust, the dash cap is a mask to an unknown face, and the front end took some damage, but still seams to roll straight.
The body looks decent, the fenders, doors and rear pass for straight. The bad is the rust in the floors around the seats and the front end. You can see that an amateur repair was attempted, and weld spots are visible in the front of the car in the pictures below. The bumpers were removed prior to our purchase, and were filled in, we chiseled out the mounting areas so that you could see that they are still there. Lights are all fixed to the vehicle, but condition unknown. Glass is all there; the passenger window is in the door with the regulator but was disconnected for some reason. Wheels are Z, but I think from a 280ZX.
The interior is mostly there. The seats look to have been recovered. Gauges are present and the odometer displays 81445. The actual mileage is unknown. Door panels will need to be repaired or replaced. The window cranks come with the car. No radio. Center console is cracked, and the state of the original dash is unknown. Keys are in the ignition.
The engine bay still holds the original L26 engine, which matches the data plate in the bay. The vin can be seen stamped on the firewall. Unfortunately, I could not get the engine to turn over, not to say that it can’t be done. The battery tray has not rusted through, which is nice. The hood we removed to use on another project, but we changed our minds and left it with the car. Bolts were lost in the process. The spare wheel looks like it can be salvaged, perhaps just in time before the rust mites could make it through the metal.
