Description
Originally a California car, then north Texas. I purchased off ebay after speaking with owners mechanic and had it shipped to New York in 2003. Texas owner was wife of Gallery Datsun in Bryan-College Station (see rear license plate holder). I understand that she was a grandma and family did not want her to drive anymore. It's been in my dehumidified garage since. Only driven on dry days, or a few wet days up at Watkins Glen.
This is a low original miles beauty (cannot prove this since I only have a few records from past owner.... however everything is consistent with original miles). Prior owner had it painted a brighter white than the original cream white. This paint has many blemishes after 20+ years. They also flared rear wheel wells. But it's a pretty good job that's lasted a long time with no signs of degradation. In spite of many flaws in paint it gets lots of complements every time I drive it. Very respectable from a few feet away since paint is smooth and glossy. Just never got around to refinishing it myself. The dash is cracked and needs replacement. Most of the chrome is good but grill is badly pitted. Stainless is nice. Surface rust in a few areas but it's surprisingly clean and restoration work is pretty much sand and paint. The transmission drips very slowly ... but not enough for me to have pulled and resealed.Last Sept I drove it to Datsun Club Meet in Watkins Glen (700-750 mi rt). No hiccups, it ran great, but it's a long drive for a 67 year old.The tires are a few year old Falkins with very little tread wear. New tan vinyl soft top (purchased a decade ago, but just mounted this summer ... hey, you don't need a top if you don't drive in the rain!). New exhaust in 2003 but immediately put a small crack the front pipe because the system was too rigid for a rocking 1600 engine. So I welded in a stainless flex pipe and it's been beautiful since. Cylinder head rebuild last year ... one new exhaust valve. New Champion aluminum 2L radiator (extra capacity cooling). New pads, front calipers and rebuilt master brake cylinder. New brake hoses all around, All gauges and switches work except amp meter (I don't like these anyway and I have a voltage gauge mounted). Mounted an LED light bar last year in case I needed light in those dark hills around Watkins Glen. It has adjustable mounts so it just pops into the fog-light mount holes. The LED light bar will be removed prior to sale and fog-light hole plugs will be popped back in. My preference has always been a safe, reliable, comfortable roadster, so Miata cloth, high-back seats, driver racing harness (3 pt seat belt for pass) and roll-bar. But I do have beautifully re-skinned original seats in my dry dehumidified basement.
A well tuned 1600 winds up and delivers in this very light little car and they are very easy to work on. Come take a drive. I'm on Long Island in Stony Brook, NY. There aren't many original (mostly original) low mile roadsters around. Drive it as is or restore it. I also have a lot (yikes, I like to buy parts!) of used and some new parts that will go with this.... fiberglass hardtop, hood, front fender, spare headers, good ball joints, rebuildable brake master, and much else. I think I have a front suspension in that garage somewhere. I'm sure I forgot something......
This is a one time auction only. I plan a last drive to the Glen for Vintage Weekend just after this ends. I'd be glad to transfer to you there and get a ride back home but you would need to get your own plates and insurance or trailer. Otherwise maybe I'll drive it to the Glen in 2017 again. Thanks, Anil

If anyone wants pics of low back original seats, please ask and I can post them in a message. Also know that I don't plan a buy-it-now. In fairness to all, please do not ask for reserve price. Tnx
New message to:notmgb | Hi Al, These are the seats. They don't have holes for headrest option. But if these are re-skinned then any holes may have been deleted(?). Anyway these are in very nice condition. Anil | | |
