1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 (LM23H0R331xxx) factory 340c.i. numbers matching original engine. The Dart is also a factory 4-speed car, factory EV2 Hemi Orange paint, original 8 ¾ rear with 3.55 posi, factory front disc brakes, factory front end sway bar, factory Rallye 340 dash cluster, currect thumbwheel AM radio, blacksteel wheels with the correct dog dish caps andtires and factory 340 hood scoops.
This 340 Swinger is a very correct and very original car that has many of correct factory items including: factory original air cleaner, radiator (2998945), intake (3462848), factory original torsion bars (2535893 & 892).It is also believed to be original 78k mile car (info from previous owner and other documents). The Dart was bought new at Hughes-Starr in DuBois, PA with a delivery date of 9-18-70.It even has the original dealer emblem still on the left side of the trunk! The Dart is an extremely well documented car and is very correct with its original VIN tag, fender tag, door VIN decal with a manufactured date of 6-1970,2 original factory build-sheets, original operator’s manual, paper work from the day it was purchased new including the factory braking distance sheet, Chrysler warranty info card, original owner info and documented oil changes and maintenance records since new. This is an absolutely beautiful car that is what I would consider more of a driver/survivor type car. It’s getting hard enough to find nice Mopars and even more difficult to find nice factory EV2 340 4-speed cars with their original engine and documents! There were only 4,423 1970 340 4-speed Dart Swingers built.
I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 25 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale.
Please call Chad at 412- 496- 1439 with any questions. Thanks!
Paint and body
The paint is nice for a driver but is not show car condition. The body is in very nice shape for a car that was painted more than 20 years ago and has only had one repaint since new.The only metal work believed to be done was a driver side full quarter as the original was dented above the wheel well opening and was replaced most likely when the car was painted. The rest of the Darts sheet metal is believed to be original including the RH quarter, doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid, floor boards, trunk floor and trunk extensions, frame and even center of the trunk floor is excellent! The paint has been buffed out in a multiple step process and looks great for a driver. It has a very nice shine and actually looks very good overall for a driver, but if you’re looking for a show car I would have it repainted or possibly blend the couple area’s that could be fixed. The body is extremely solid and only has a couple area’s that have small paint blisters. There are a couple blisters on the very bottom of the passenger quarter panel at the quarter to rocker seam (under rear door edge) and a couple just in front of the very bottom edge of the wheel lip molding in front of the rear tire. The driver side door only has a couple super small ones on the very bottom edge and the drivers quarter that was changed has some marks/lines in the roof pillar where you’re quarter to roof seam is.There are also a few paint chips as well some of which have been brush touched-up.If you know anything about body work these are minor issues that would not require a lot of work to correct. Please look at the photos closely I listed a lot of extra listed below. The trunk still has it’s original paint and is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. It even has a factory paint marking/number still visible in yellow paint. The bottom rocker panels are even in very nice shape, very clean, and not full of bondo/fillers.The doors close absolutely beautiful and be push shut with the ease of your finger! Please view the extra pictures that I have linked below for good close-up photos of these area’s as well as over 50 more pictures of the Dart.
GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM
The glass is in extremely nice original condition. All the glass appears to be original Chrysler date coded glass. There are only a couple very small minor scratches. The front windshield has one chip with about a 1” crack that has been there for over 15 years and is on the passenger side close to the lower edge near the chrome molding. The windows operate as should and line up excellent. The bumpers are in nice shape for original and have a good shine and no pitting on them but not show perfect. The door handles, driver side mirror, wing vent window chrome and emblems are also in very nice original condition with no pitting and a nice shine. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.
INTERIOR
The interior is almost all original and in super nice shape! The Dart has only had a package tray, carpet and front bench seat bottom cover from Legendary Auto installed. All of the factory gauges work and operate correctly. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory AM thumbwheel radio also works great. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan and horn all work as should.
DRIVE TRAIN
The strong running numbers matching 340 makes excellent power and runs great. The 340 sounds perfect and I would drive this car anywhere! It is topped off with the original factory cast iron intake # 3462848 and Edelbrock eletric choke carb.I have the factory numbers Carter AVS list # 4933s that will be included with the sale of the car.The numbers matching 340 has a casting date of 5-8-70 and the ID Badge has the VIN# stamped on it.The block casting number is 2780930-340.The factory numbers below the driver side head are FW 340 P32550331 making it a 1970 Windsor plant motor built on June 26th 1970.The 340 has a new top end with a mild Comp cam (.480 lift and .230 duration at .050), new pushrods, lifters, timing chain, distributor, dist. drive gear and all gaskets. The bottom end was done by the previous owner and has very low miles on it.It was bored .030 over with new Keith Black pistons and reconditioned factory steel crank. The factory 2.02 “J” heads were also done at that time. The new rebuilt A833 4-speed 23-spline transmission is a 1969 4-speed out of a Barracuda and it shifts beautifully through all gears (upshift and downshift). The new LUK 10 ½” clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing feel perfect for nice street driving. The Dart also has a new rebuilt Z-bar, new clutch fork, fork pivot, resurfaced 130 tooth flywheel, Hurst 4-speed shifter and new drive shaft. The 8 ¾is original to the car and still has the original factory tag on it for the 3.55 posi center section and has several factory paint markings still stamped on the housing. The new rear leafs are the Mopar Super Stock ones with new rear shocks and hangers. This excellent drive train combo runs and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving. The top end of the 340 and all the 4-speed trans stuff have less than 150 miles on them and was just finished last month.
