Description

Little did most folks know, but the Dodge Dart was one of Chrysler's better ideas. Sure, the big block Hemis get all the attention, but if you wanted all-around performance with a small price tag, the Dart was it. Cars like this appealing 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger are deliver great bang for the buck and offer many of the same styling cues as their bigger brothers.
If there's one thing this Dart has, it's charisma. It definitely isn't subtle, sporting period-perfect Copper Brown Metallic paint and a handful of blacked-out body parts, but that's part of the fun. This is the car that can take you to work every day and you'll never stop having fun. And for a Dart, which really was an economy car at heart, this one is shockingly nice. The sheetmetal is laser-straight and the paint is not only bright, but shiny and smooth, indicative of someone spending a lot of time hand-sanding and buffing the surface. And holy cow, just look at how well those doors line up; it's obvious even in photographs that this is a well-assembled piece. Add in a really nice grille, fresh chrome bumpers, and a nicely installed black vinyl top and you get a handsome little Dodge with a ton of attitude.
The bench seat interior was standard Dart fare, but this one seems to be almost entirely original and it has a real Mopar look. A skinny 2-spoke steering wheel brings a futuristic feel to the economy-minded Dart interior, and with a full set of gauges, nice carpets, and an undamaged dash pad, it all fits together quite nicely. Ice cold A/C has been fitted below the dash in a slick low-profile unit, and the original radio still lives in the dash (yes, it works!). We're pretty sure that the 26,245 miles showing on the odometer are authentic, and the condition of the interior certainly bears this out. There's a good-sized back seat and the trunk offers plenty of space as well as a correct mat that fits right.
You can dismiss the 225 cubic inch "slant six" as an economy car engine, but in the lightweight Dart, it delivers lively performance. Legendary durability means that you can have fun without worries and parts are still easy to find so service is never a worry. It wears a correct coat of corporate turquoise engine enamel plus the original air cleaner, so everything looks quite authentic. The big A/C compressor dominates the front of the engine bay, but you also get a giant radiator and ultra-clean inner fenders that offer additional evidence that this is a clean, low-mileage, original car. A 3-speed automatic transmission links to the original rear end, which has highway-friendly gears inside so this is a relaxed cruiser. The floors are ultra-clean, there's a fresh single exhaust system, and fresh air shocks hang out back. Factory Rallye wheels look great and wear fat BFGoodrich T/A radials.
If you like original cars and lots of fun per dollar, this Dart delivers. It's also heavily documented with build sheets and manuals, making it a neat piece of Mopar history. Call today!
