Description

We often see early Mustangs in bright red, but sometimes you want something a little less obvious. Combined with a gorgeous saddle and a burly 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood, this Antique Bronze 1966 Ford Mustang convertible is a great choice for the guy who loves the early look but wants a little more muscle under the hood. There aren't many cars out there that generate the same universally warm feelings that an early Mustang does, simply because EVERYONE loves them. The paint and bodywork are in excellent condition, with a color change from Emberglow to Antique Bronze, and we love the low-key look. As it sits, this is a very handsome cruiser with laser-straight flanks. The sheetmetal is clean, there are no questionable areas, and the prep on the body was very good before the paint was applied. It's just beautifully done and obviously there's a ton of money involved. All the great Mustang detailing remains, too, from the iconic grille with the Mustang "corral" in the center, to the brightly polished rocker panel moldings, to the cool faux vents in the rear quarters. You'll note the '289' badges on the front fenders, which are legit because this was originally an A-code car, and the bumpers shine like they were just plated last week. GT exhaust trumpets and rear valence were added, just because they look great, but that seems to be the only modification. This is just a flat-out awesome looking Mustang. This lovely Mustang also features a Saddle Pony interior, which included embossed seatbacks with, of course, more horses, and it's a highly desirable option. The seats themselves are supportive and firm, thanks to new foam underneath, and they show almost no wear or sun damage despite living in a convertible. New carpets and door panels complement the deluxe interior package, which also included woodgrained accents on the instrument panel. GT-style gauges are easily visible through the stylish 3-spoke steering wheel with a woodgrained rim, and there's an auxiliary temperature gauge under the dash. A newer AM/FM/cassette stereo now lives in the original radio's slot and this car includes original-style A/C in a stand-alone unit under the dash. Overhead, a recent white vinyl convertible top has been installed and includes a matching tan boot when it's down. The trunk is finished with a correct plaid mat set and full-sized spare tire.V8 power in a Mustang is a great way to travel, and while this one originally featured a A-code 289, it's now packing a bit more than the standard 225 horsepower. It's beautifully detailed, with a chrome air cleaner, Ford Blue paint, and modern accessories being turned by a serpentine belt drive system from a 5.0 Mustang. Key it up and it fires easily, and pulls cleanly through the gears in the 3-speed automatic gearbox behind it. Out back there's a rugged 8-inch rear end with very highway-friendly 3.00 gears that make this an easy cruiser. The front suspension is a very trick tubular setup with rack-and-pinion steering that totally transforms the car's handling and a set of subframe connectors really reinforce the convertible's tub. It features long-tube headers and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system with a muted V8 rumble that fits this car's personality. Oversized front disc brakes work well, and those polished aluminum wheels wear modern BFG radials.Great running and driving Mustangs that haven't been abused or are full of rust are getting harder to find all the time. This one could be a show winner at the local level and the extra punch of the extroverted small block makes for a very entertaining ride. Call today!
