Built by Matt Reynolds of Cincy Street Rods in 2005 and used as Jim Busby’s & Dick Munz’s Bonneville Speed Week chase car!
Matt Reynolds of Cincy Street Rods in Cincinnati, Ohio originally built this hotrod for his personal use. Reynolds drove it from Cincinnati to Bonneville Speed Week in 2005, 2006, and 2008. On his last trip he sold to Jim Busby and Dick Munz’s for their Bonneville Speed Week chase car for their record holding ’32 Ford which went 207mph! Munz then added it to his large RVM Classics Collection in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Westcott Fiberglass body is finished in a workaday matte brown, the car’s paint and minimal trim are in overall very good order and have stayed true to Reynolds original design. The movable windshield is in good shape while the car’s lights are in very good order. The headlamps, within elongated, bullet-like housings flanking the hood, are attractive.
Overall the car’s bodywork is solid and straight. It sits on a original ’32 Ford frame that has been fully boxed and a American Stamping x-member and Model A front crossmember. It was then dropped 4-inches by a Chassis Engineering I-Beam axle with reversed-eye Posies transverse leaf springs. The car has no roof or side window glass and the passenger-side rear bumper guard is missing but there is a snap-on rear tonneau cover for the space behind the driver and passenger. This car rolls on 16-inch Ford steel wheel with spun aluminum racing discs surrounded by Excelsior bias-ply tires, 5.00-5.25-16 in front, and Firestone bias-play tires, 7.50-16 in rear.
Under that vee’d nose is a crate GM 350 CID V-8 with a Edelbrock 650cfm four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, golden Oldsmobile Rocket “shorted to Mobile Rocket” valve covers and a 1937 Ford truck hubcap air cleaner housing. Buttoned to that is a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear differential. Both front and rear axles have Speedway Hollow anti-roll bars. Stopping this Ford are hydraulic drum brakes from a ’40 Ford.
Inside, the car has 1959 Corvette steering, a vintage “Bell” steering wheel but the horn is inoperable. The firewall and instrument panel, with its full array of vintage gauges and only two modern style hidden gauges that were need to run at Bonneville. Many famous hotrodders autographed the dashboard and firewall including: Hot Rod Hall of Fame member Tex Smith and Pete Chapouris to name a few, it is also peppered with stickers denoting various races the car competed in. The fabric-covered bench seat is in satisfactory order, while the aforementioned steering wheel looks good.
