1948 Ford (Mercury) Custom
Description
I have listed my Mercury pickup under "Ford" because I feel very few people even know that there was a Mercury brand pickup. The Mercs were basically the same as the F-1 Fords but had more deluxe trim (see interior and front fenders) and were produced only for the Canadian market. This model, M-47, corresponds to the Ford F-1 which was completely revised in appearance for the 1948 model year.
My Mercury has had a complete body restoration including all chrome and stainless trim, gaskets and seals around doors and windows and new glass (tinted). The paint is a beautiful Deep Evergreen which is a 1997-98 Ford color. In certain light it looks dark green and then it appears to change to blue as you walk around the truck and go from bright light to shadow. This is the first thing people say when they see this truck: "I LOVE the color!" It will be a star in any show.
Some of the upgrades include: a Buick Riviera 455 engine and TH 400 transmission, nine inch Ford rear end, Heidt Mustang II front end, 11 in. power front disc brakes, power steering and seat, GM tilt steering wheel (Le Carra brand, leather wrapped), air shocks and American Racing "daisy" pattern wheels. Exterior mods include a new oak bed with stainless strips, a diamond plate tool box and a custom bed cover. Also featured are twin working spot lights and twin fog lamps with Mercury logo (not hooked up). Body-wise it is completely stock. The leather seat is out of a Buick. I have fitted new retractable 3-point seat belts.
The only components that are not working are the speedometer and odometer. I believe they were never hooked up to the tranny after the conversion.
Included is an A/C setup (see photo) which a previous owner never installed. He told me that it is complete except that it needs an adapter to fit the compressor to the engine.

(I added a photo of the heater which appears to be the original one and it does work.)
