Description

All stock and original, good running and driving, well-preserved, nicely patina'd, one family owned (1979-2018) 1979 Ford F-250 Custom pickup truck which was sold new at Allen's Ford Sales in Panguitch, Utah and used as a ranch/farm/hunting truck by the Clark family for years in Southern Utah. 1979 is a great year to own because it represents the last model year of the very collectible 1973-1979 body style.
The exterior has mostly original paint and a great patina that only 40 years of Mother Nature could create. The cab forward in particular is very solid with rust-through confined to a section of driver side floorboard and a small hole in the driver side cab corner. It looks like the passenger door was resprayed and/or replaced at some point in the ancient past. There is no bondo anywhere on the cab forward. And it has a cool, period correct Luverne bull bar on the front. The bed has typical rust where the inner and outer fenders merge above the rear tires. The driver side has been repaired once and resprayed but rust has come back. Patch panels are less than $75 a pair on Ebay or just leave it as is. Auxiliary plastic gas tank harness has partially rusted through (it's a design flaw; there's no place for moisture to escape if mud gets trapped between harness and tank). All glass is good other than a rock chip on the passenger side. Exteriorlights all work except for left front blinker.
The interior is all original other than a gun rack, trailer brake control and Stowline truck caddy behind the seat. The dash is perfect with all buttons and knobs in place (except wiper knob) and no cutting or butchery of any kind. Everything works except the factory AM radio. Doors open and close properly (driver side door panel is loose) as do the windows (passenger side window regulator needs lubrication). Upholstery is all original but the driver side seat has been patched up with Gorilla Tape. And this truck even comes with factory air conditioning (compressor works but Freon needs to be recharged).
The running gear is in good condition with a 400cid V-8 and C-6 automatic transmission (shifts great but needs pan gasket and neutral safety switch) running through an NP205 transfer case. The front differential is a high-pinion Dana 44 (with disk brakes and locking hubs) and the rear differential is a Dana 60 (with 4.10 gears). The 4WD system works properly. This is a Holy Grail running gear combo and represents the top-of-the-line in 1979. Within the last 100 miles the truck has had the following...
* Rebuilt Carburetor* New Ignition Switch* New Starter Solenoid* New Water Pump* New Electric Fuel Pump* New Spark Plugs* New Distributor Cap & Rotor* New Air Filter* New Headlights* Fresh Coolant & Flush* Fresh Oil Change
A couple issues... upon cold startup, the engine blows a small amount of blue smoke but it lessens as it warms up. I suspect it's valve seals. Also, it sat for a long time and sounds like it may have a stuck lifter. I think it just needs to be driven. In any case, it still runs and drives very well.
This is a good truck to build from with solid bones. It runs, drives, shifts, steers, turns and brakes nicely and is pretty tight (other than typical rattly doors). And it's all stock and original with limited and confined rust. Plus it has an automatic transmission and air conditioning. It could easily be a daily driver. I hope it ends up with someone who will use it, preserve it or restore it. Stock and original vintage trucks like this which haven't been horribly modified over the years are getting harder to find. Just my two cents.
