1948 Mercury M47 1/2 Ton Pickup
Description
This is a rare 1948 Mercury M47 1/2 ton short bed pickup. The Mercury M47 was a Canadian produced pickup that is interchangeable with Ford F47 pickups. I purchased this truck locally from a lady in her nineties that claimed, to the best of her recollection, that her husband had owned it since it was 2 or 3 years old. It had been stored in a Quonset on her farm since the late seventies, or early eighties, so it has been preserved really well. It has also been out of the DMV system since the late seventies or early eighties, so it is being sold with a bill of sale only. I can get a bill of sale notarized if the buyer is willing to cover the notarization fee.
This is a complete pickup, for the most part, which I have previously had most of it disassembled in order to go through it and fix or clean-up areas that needed to be addressed. The only bright work piece missing is the trim from the front fenders otherwise it is a complete truck. Although not in the pictures, the horn button is with the truck too. The original gauges, wiring etc are included and have only been been removed. The new headlights and tail lights have been switch over to 12 volt and it was my intention to complete the total conversion over to 12 volt on this pickup. None of the glass was any good, so it was all removed and only the vent window glass remains. Any rust on this truck is only superficial and there is really no rot issues. Only a couple of rust areas; an area on the front part of the side panels on the bed. When I purchased the truck there was dirt in the front of the box and it obviously held moisture, so there is some bubbling right where the box side panels meet the bed floor on the front corners of the box sides. This truck has a steel bed floor. There is also a small area that has some bubbling on the lower and upper fender seam on the passenger side front fender.
One of the previous owners had painted the truck white with a paint brush, but most of it has come off and I removed as much as I could too. It has a real cool patina look to it. The flathead V8 engine included with this truck has been hot tanked and magna fluxed and is a good block to rebuild. The cylinders will need to be over bored to clean them up, but other than that this truck offers great bones for a rebuild. I had intended to keep this engine as a piece of shop art, but have decided to include it with this truck. I painted up the block and powder coated black all the oil pan/accessory pieces etc. The hardware is all stainless and it does have gaskets on it as well, so there's a fair bit included with the engine. Most of rotating assembly & valve train assemblies (except crank) were in rough condition were not put back into it. The original 3 spd transmission is also still attached to the engine. The two bumpers are brand new and have been freshly powder coated satin black. The drivers side door latch mechanism is brand new as well and works excellent. There are various new handles/cranks. There is quite a value on an assortment of parts that I will include with this truck to the purchaser. I had just recently built a 1952 Mercury pickup, so I have an assortment of brand new spare parts that will work for this truck. There are most, if not all, of the brand new weather stripping/seals this truck would need included with these parts.
This truck offers a really solid foundation and has been cleaned up really well and would be an extremely nice project to build. I feel really confident that anyone who is looking for a vintage of truck like this truck will be very happy if they purchase this truck. With that said, if you are interested please ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. The buyers satisfaction is very important to me and I would prefer you buy with complete confidence. Please call or message me if you have any inquiries/questions. I can help accommodate your shipping arrangements/pick up times. Bruce - (780) 621-6346
