Description

If there's one car that we can guarantee will always have an enthusiastic following, it's an early Mustang convertible like this 1965 model. Paint it red, give it a strong-running 289, and you have an iconic pony car that not only delights everyone who sees it, but a great driving toy that can still run with some pretty serious hardware. You can't argue with the image of fun that this bright red Mustang projects, and it's not an illusion. This neat ragtop wins friends everywhere it goes simply because everyone knows it's impossible to not have fun behind the wheel of a Mustang convertible. It's in exactly the right condition for enjoying it on the road: nice enough for casual shows but not so perfect that every cloud in the sky has you running for the garage. Fit and finish are good overall and the white GT stripe along the rocker panel adds some contrast that works well with those flashy wheels. In fact, all the proper GT equipment is in place, including fog lamps up front, GT badging, and the tailpipes that exit through the rear valence instead of underneath. It's not a real GT, but someone was sweating the details. Nice chrome bumpers and door handles add a little bit of sparkle, but it's not like this car needs any help in the eyeball department. The handsome red bucket seat interior is mostly stock, making it an awesome place to hang out on a sunny day. The red is actually kind of elegant in a Mustang and gives it a highly finished look, while the matching red carpets add the kind of pizzazz that made the Mustang America's favorite pony car. The five-gauge instrument panel is another GT-only feature that was surely added during the restoration, and a custom center console adds practicality with a pair of cup holders. A retro-looking AM/FM stereo with CD changer slots neatly into the dash because it was made just for these cars and matching red floor mats with pony logos make it easy to keep things tidy. A white convertible top is a welcome bit of contrast to all that red and it includes a matching white boot that looks great with the white GT stripes. The trunk is also outfitted correctly, featuring a plaid mat and a full-sized spare with a custom cover.Originally a T-code, this Mustang has been upgraded to a 289 cubic inch V8, making this Mustang a very able performer. The conversion was done right, like the rest of the car, and the underhood area has a very OEM look, if a bit used. Ford Blue paint on the engine helps with the illusion and the chrome air cleaner and valve covers were part of the GT equipment group. Long-tube headers feed a snarky dual exhaust system that cackles and barks just the way you'd hope it would in your GT, and the rest of the chassis has been upgraded to V8 spec with a C4 3-speed automatic transmission, 5-lug hubs, and power brakes. Styled steel wheels are really the only smart choice on a Mustang like this, and they're fitted whitewall radials for a period look. This is a neat Mustang that can be driven anywhere, anytime and makes a stunning entrance every time.
