Description

1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Coupe 2+2 – Slumbering Cat Awakened!

Twenty years ago this Willow Green example of Jaguar's big sporting cat was sent to rest in the dim confines of a snug garage and for many long winters she lay still and silent. This year we had the good fortune to discover her and now she has been awakened. She shows some wear buthas aged gracefully and can still run the way she was built to – smoothly and powerfully. This old girl still roars. Her prime may have passed but she has lost none of her elemental charm.

Stored in Salem since around 2001, this desirable Series 1 E-Type has been given a new lease on life and is presented in its authentic, original and entirely rust free state. It has all the sought-after Series 1 attributes -- the triple SU carbs, the faired-in headlights, the dash toggle switches. We found it with the engine removed and in need of a new clutch and once this repair (and a few others) were performed, this agile coupe went sprinting happily down the road and is now ready for its next owner.

After sorting things out, all systems on this car are fully operable, including electrical.(Okay, currently there's no power to the back-up lights). Aside from installing the new clutch, we replaced the motor and trans mounts, steering rack boots, all cooling hoses, flushed the brake and fuel lines (new tank pick-up and fuel filters), hot-tanked the gas tank and radiator, repaired a few electrical items, and put in a new downpipe where it was missing at the exhaust manifold. With only 59,500 miles accumulated, the rorty 265 h.p. overhead cam six is tight and strong and the sporting sound from the exhaust outlets is very mid-sixties British and music to our ears. The gear box is a little noisy, most of this vintage are, but it shifts seamlessly. Effective brakes, good shocks, solid driveline, silent differential. Nice, bright factory wire wheels (and really old tires).

Thenumbers on the engine bay data plate match the engine number stamped on the cylinder head, the transmission number stamped on the trans, and the chassis number stamped on the subframe. We were unable to find an engine number stamped where it should be on the block. We have documentation of two of the past owners and both were long-term. The first purchased the Jaguar after trading in his Volkswagon. The E-Type had 43,625 miles on it when it left R and H Auto Imports in Eugene, Oregon in 1975. The car changed hands around 2001. The next owner (whom we bought the car from) owned it from that date until February 2017, so through two owners only 16,XXX additional miles were clocked over a period of 42 years. That this Jaguar spent all that time primarily out of the weather is evident by its distinguished condition. Did we mention it is entirely without rust? Not over, not under, not inside, not anywhere.

Suitable as it stands as a turn-key driver with minimal further needs, or as a subject for a brilliant restoration, this amazingly complete E-type Series 1 2+2 coupe comes with its original Operating and Service handbook, Supplementary Operating Details handbook, Maintenance Chart, ownership documentation since 1975, repair receipts, spare wheel, jack, and rarely accompanying an E-Type sale, it's original and complete tool roll (see pics). The leather seating and vinyl panels are excellent to just serviceable, the headliner is tightly in place, the dash top is like new, the wooden Jaguar factory steering wheel is very nice to grip, the dealer-installed Blaupunkt AM radio is the perfect period piece, the lovely Willow green paint can be broughtback to luster. A few dings and dents, but overall this Jaguar has withstood the ravages of time admirably.
