Description

Up for auction is a 1967 Series 1 1/2 XKE Jaguar Coupe. One of the rarest models with less than 500 cars built between coupes, roadsters and 2+2’s, no one seems to know exactly how many coupes were built but I’ve been told around 150.
This is a full Series 1 car with the exception of open headlights. It’s so early that it could be converted to glass covered head lights and no one could argue the change. I purchased the car in 1989 (Second owner) with the intention of driving/showing when completed. The car has gone through a full concours restoration from acid dipping the body to shaping the bumpers to fit perfectly. Body work was done with weatherstrip glued in place. Engine rebuilt, transmission with all new Berge & Syncros clutch and all new Borg U-Joints etc... Car is the original color with black interior. Almost every part has been restored. Car needs to be final assembled. Close to $20K spent on triple chrome over copper. Even the E brake handle was disassembled and chromed. All new interior kit wiring, stainless exhaust, wire wheels and spinners. Out of pocket parts and materials are close to $60K spent. Labor expense exceeding $150K and with the average cost of a restorable car between $50-60K, this car leaves a very good profit margin to someone who’s willing to do the final assembles. I’m offering the car up at $115K. I feel like the car can be finished in 400-500 hours staying on the concours path and under 300 hours if you’re not fussy with making the car 100% correct. I’ve looked at many examples and have never seen another E-Type restored to this detail. Anytime you restore a car, you need a car and the parts. To restore this car, you’ll be getting all the hard work that was done for free!
Have title and documentation. You will not be disappointed in this fine piece of art!
