Its back! If you are still reading chances are you've seen this car before. You either love it or hate it. Featured on BAT this is a one of a kind purpose built British Racing Green Fixed head coupe. I fell in love with this car immediately upon seeing it listed and lusted after it for sometime.
I dreamed off reinstalling a factory dash and narrowing the rear to accommodate more elegant rolled fenders reminiscent of racing lightweights.
In my opinion the Series 1 fixed head coupe is the sexiest of all the E types. Coupled with a 355hp ZZ4 SBC and ZF 6 speed manual and this car offers unparalleled power and drivability. The dash has now been painstakingly completely swapped to factory spec minus an aftermarket under dash a/c unit that although blows ice cold is unsightly. All gauges except the speedometer which was going to be GPS driven and the amp meter work. I have sourced a factory underdash a/c unit that will go with the car. There is no heater presently fitted.
This car was built by a master fabricator under the guidance of E type racing legend Lou Firanza's Gran Turismo over a period of several years at a time when these cars were not nearly as precious in their original spec. The car was built at great expense to Gran Turismo's GTJ -US (ultimate street) specs and is meant to be brutally fast, handle like its on rails and cover great highway distances in relative comfort. It has done a trouble free cross country trek. How many other E types can say that? Folders of detailed build specs, hand written notes and receipts totally tens of thousands dollars accompany the vehicle along with books, manuals and heritage certificate.
This car has been my daily driver in Florida for the better part of the last year and could not be more fun to drive. Turn the key and the gauges and fuel pump come to life. A push of the starter button and the engine literally roars awakening your entire household and several of your closest neighbors. The super trap exhaust is crisp and loud as you ease it out of the garage. That kind rumble in an e type cockpit is something special. Pull out in first gear and the massive rear tires chirp as you are pinned back in your seat. Unless you are in a serious hurry to embarrass youngsters in their tuner cars I tend to take off in 2nd.
Wilwood brakes on all corners provide excellent stopping power. The car is low slung has been lowered 1 1/2". Next on the list was replacement of the lower control arm bushings Otherwise the car runs and drives great and is an absolute blast to drive. Family priorities have changed and its time to pass it on to a new owner who can enjoy it as is or continue to bring it back closer to stock. Ive included a before or an after of the dash and will be adding additional photos as the weather clears.
