Description

This auction is for a 1986 Jeep CJ7 Laredo. This is the last year the CJ7 was built and this particular jeep is a 27k original milesexample.

I bought this jeep a few years back where it was sitting in a truck parking lot forgotten. The transmission and transfer case had been pulled for a clutch replacement, but the shop performing the work closed and the original transmission and transfer case were lost. The jeep therefore sat for a few years and was not driven. It was purchased from the original owner by someone with similar aspirations to me but he had too many other jeep projects (including a CJ6) and ended up selling to me, I am the 3rd owner. I sourced the correct transmission and transfer case from a 1985 CJ7 and bolted them in with new mounts and clutch linkage, performed a tune up (cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires, all filters) and replaced all fluids, and the jeep started right up.Thejeep starts (even when cold it starts quickly) runs, drives, shifts, and stops fine,I have driven it more than a couple of blocks and the only things really holding it back from a longer tripare the body rust and the carburetor which needs a rebuild.

Thisis a particularly well-optioned model with the following original features:
- Laredo trim (which gets you the tachometer, clock, leather seats, leather trimmed dash bar, chrome exterior trim and bumpers, side steps, 20 gallon fuel tank, etc.)
- Hardtop
- 5 speed manual T5 transmission
- Under dash courtesy lights
- Marchal 850 driving lights (original wiring harness wiring harness and mounting brackets are still on the front bumper)
- Mud flaps
- Air conditioning
- Power steering
- Rare 1-year only factory rear Dana 44 axle

The only parts that I know are missing are the rear seat mounting brackets and the shifter cover plate. Everything else I believe is included for a total rebuild, and it took me and the 2nd owner quite some time to source everything:
- Correct front seat
- Correct fold and tumble rear seat
- Correct center console
- Extra original mud flaps
- Original 4x Laredo chrome wheels and center caps
- Second set of original Jeep CJ steel wheels with new BF Goodrich 30x9.50R15 tires (currently on jeep, 5th newtire is included with no rim)
- Fan shroud
- 2x extra carburetors (date coded 1986)
- Original dash windshield knobs
- Original side view mirrors and arms/brackets
- Original NOS radio
- Original dash speakers
- New engine mounts
- New shifter boots
- Misc cooling hoses, engine sensors, and gaskets
Because of the low mileage, this jeep deserves a full concours-quality restoration in my opinion. It is rusty given the years it sat outside with some of its drivetrain missing, and it was also hit a few times by trucks in the parking lot it sat. Some say the tub can be saved but I don't think it is worth saving, for that reason I purchased a rust free original CJ7 tub which I have sandblasted and epoxy primed, as well as original fenders (also sandblasted and primed) and dashboard. These bodyparts are not included with the sale but are available for separate purchase for $4,750 (my total cost). The hardtop also has a few cracks and is likely not easily saved, though I do have the missing side window if you want to try fixing it. I unfortunately have too many other projects right now and have lost my storage space so I can no longer keep the jeep until I get around to restoring it.

The crown jewel of this jeep is the frame. There is no deep or significant rust as far as I can tell, and I have included multiple pictures to show this. There is a bit of light surface rust in some places that can be easily wire wheeled and coated, but even the areas near the body mountsare very solid.

Additional pictures are available upon request, also available are more pictures of the included parts and the body tub which I am selling separately. I also have a picture of the title from the last owner showing the mileage at 27,127. Note however that the previous owner replaced the factory speedometer/oil gauge/voltmeter and they are long gone, however given the fact the jeep started right up after years of sitting and since it drives so well given its condition I am convinced it is a true 27k mile jeep.

Buyer must arrange pickup for jeep from Astoria, NY 11105. The jeep will drive under its own power on to a trailer and I can assist with loading. LOW RESERVE!!
