I am selling my 1976 CJ-7. I am the second owner. I purchased the jeep about 20 years ago from the original owner. They had just rebuilt the original 304 amc, V-8 motor. I used it as my primary vehicle for about 4 years. Since then it has been a back-up vehicle (probably 40k miles since rebuild). The th-400 (Chevy, heavy duty) 3 speed automatic transmission was rebuilt about 6 years ago. I have only put about 1000 miles on it since then, but there is a leak (probably seal, as it sits in my garage for periods of time). The carburetor was also rebuilt around that time.
Note:!!!!! I have listed every imperfection I can think of. I'm not a professional seller, and I'm sure that you can find other listings on the "inter-web" that do not seem to have as many issues as my Jeep. But, I am not trying to sell a "bill of goods", just trying to let you know everything I can, so that when you get the Jeep, you will be happy and will have been fully informed.
Jeep has 7 KC lights, a lift, and larger tires with 90% life left. A custom moon roof cut into hardtop. Hardtop has some wear, but fully functional. Seats were replaced by original owners (the family I bought it from) with mechanicalCorvetteSeats. Need upholstery. I have replaced the front breaks and drums, but there is an issue with the front end causing wear (most likely Stability Arm, per my mechanic). Also, replaced the oil pan gasket and dipstick tube (but also a small leak). I replaced all electrical components (starter, coil, alternator, battery).
The jeep looks great when cleaned and polished, but has some chips in the paint. Also I would re-carpet it if I was going to keep it.
There is a clunking sound in the transfer case. My mechanic believes it is about a $200 part (Oil probably ran low, chain busted or tore teeth)...
When you take off from stopped, transfer case clunks (clunk, clunk, clunk) until you you reach about 20 mph, then smooth drive.
This is a good Jeep, but needs a little TLC. I would recommend the buyer either know their way around a jeep, or have a few bucks to put into it. In either case, you will have a rare, classic CJ-7 with the V-8 motor, and automatic transmission.
This Jeep needs some maintenance work, but mechanically (engine, transmission) is sound. This model completely restored sells for $12k all they way up to $30k and beyond (check: https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars-for-sale/jeep-cj_7-for-sale?year_from=1976&year_to=1980&page=2#search-bar). This vehicle has lived in Reno (Northern Nevada) it's whole life. Thus, dry climate, no rust! I searched online for hours looking at Jeep cj's around the country and I did not find one in as good a shape as this one for under $8k.

There is also the oil leak I mentioned. I am not sure where this is from. But again, as this is a vehicle that needs some TLC. I'm sure it's some gasket/ seal or another.
