1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ 4x4 **2 SETS of DOORS**3 DIFFERENT TOPS**
Description
Hello Jeepers,
I purchased this YJ about a year ago and have put less than 500 miles on it. I didn't need it when I bought it, I already had 2 other Jeeps at the time but when I ran across this one, I couldn't turn down the deal. It was clean and remarkably solid when I rolled under it. Un-restored YJ's this solid are becoming rare as hen's teeth here in the Midwest, usually the frames and tubs are full of cancerous rust. So I brought it home and although I haven't driven it a lot, I've put quite a bit of time and money into bringing it up to date on mechanical maintenance. Unfortunately, winter is around the corner and I can only fit so many toys in my shop and I'm currently sitting on 3 vintage Jeeps and 3 vintage motorcycles so I've decided to let this go.
LOCATION AND USE HISTORY:
. Complete vehicle history report on Carfax dating back to 1989 shows NO ACCIDENTS OR DAMAGE reported throughout the 30 years.
**FLORIDA VEHICLE**This Jeep spent 20 of its 30 years with a home base of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. It's owners flat towed it behind an RV which is how it accumulated so many miles on the odometer.I'm aware "tow miles" is one of the oldest Jeep selling tricks in the book, but this was legit. I personally removed the bulky, custom welded, flat tow front bumper off this Jeep and replaced it with a stock bumper. The wiring and plug connector for the flat tow hook-up is still on the front of the Jeep today. True driven miles are unknown.I'm also assuming its time spent in Florida is the main reason this Jeep is so rust free. There have been less then 8,000 miles put on the Jeep since it left Florida in 2013I've looked under A LOT of Jeeps and I DO NOT believe this Jeep has probably ever seen ANY off road use.

BODY:
This Jeep Body is very solid and fairly straight other than there is one spot on the passenger side front rocker that could use a little straightening and has slight surface rust starting to bubble. Its more noticeable with the doors on. The rocker panel is still solid and I think it could be repaired without any cutting or welding. I have shown this spot in the pictures.I believe the tub is all original paint. It has a nice set of 6" Xenon Fender Flares on it. They are not stock so they are obviously not original paint. It is my opinion that the hood has been repainted at some point. All the black accents (i.e. Hood, Hinges, Latches etc) are not stock and it has a painted white grill cover on it.The paint over all is Good. This Jeep looks incredible from a short distance away but up close it is 30 years old, un-restored, and has the typical "patina" you would expect.Knicks and scratches mostly around the hinges and top tub rail from the Doors and Tops coming on and off for 30 years. Some fading/discoloration in areas but minor for age.I've tried to show examples of these areas in the pictures.Ebay charged me extra for the high quality photos and zoom feature so please utilize it to look the body over.
INTERIOR:
Interior is in good shape for its age. Dash has no sun cracks. Carpet is good, there are some cigarette burns in the carpet from a previous owner, nothing too bad though. Front seats are worn but have BRAND NEW Best Top seat covers on them. Back seat is in VERY good shape, has Jeep Logo fabric. Roll bar covers are very good. Has center console. The center four gauges on the dash can be a little intermittent. The Fuel gauge is fine, but the Temp, Oil Pressure, and Voltage like to bounce around, but sometimes they work just fine. This is pretty typical in my experience. MPH and RPM gauges have no issues.
Engine:
AMC 2.5L/150 TBI Four Cylinder Engine. Starting with the YJ application in 1987, AMC 2.5's were offered with Throttle Body Injection (TBI) making them the first Jeep Utility 4X4 to offer fuel injection. These engines are essentially the same design as the straight six only with two cylinders cut off.The engine in this Jeep runs very strong. It starts right up. It sounds healthy. It does not smoke at all. It hasn't used any oil in the year I've owned it.These AMC 2.5's are known to be reliable but they are definitely not power houses.
Transmission:
This Jeep is equippedwith the 5-Speed manual AX-5 transmission used in Wranglers for nearly 20 years. The clutch and slave cylinder were both replaced only 10,000 miles ago. There are no known issues with the transmission. It shifts in and out of all 5 forward gears and reverse with no problems. All gears work as they should. I've had it running 65mph on the highway in 5th gear.
4X4:
I've put it in 4 wheel drive twice. Once when I bought it and once before I wrote this. It engaged both times and the Transfer Case shifts smoothly.I've never actually "USED" it in a situation I needed it. As I stated at the beginning of the write up, I doubt its been used much at all over the years judging from the condition of the under carriage of the Jeep.
Frame / Chassis:
Probably one of cleanest and most solid under carriages I've seen on an older YJ other than on a restoration. It's the main reason I couldn't turn the Jeep down.NO RUST. FRAME 100% solid.
Lift Kit:
This Jeep has 4-1/2" of total lift. Stock YJ height is 18" from the ground to the bottom of the tub at the rocker. This Jeep measures 22-1/2".The 31" tires are responsible for about 1" of that lift so I'm assuming it has a 3-1/2"- 4" leaf spring and shock lift kit on it.
Climate Control:
Heat works well. All the control cables move freely and the gates actuate to switch from defrost to floor and vent to heat. Blower motor works. The heater core was plugged when I bought the Jeep but was thoroughly back-flushed when we replaced the cooling system and has functioned as it should ever since. The Jeep is equipped with factory, or in some cases back then..dealer installed air conditioning. Short of one missing knob the system is 100% all there but is also 100% NOT WORKING.
Doors: (2 sets!!!!)
Comes with the original full steel doors. They are fully functional, except for the passenger side door lock doesn't work and I DO NOT have a key for either door. They have good clean glass and the windows crank up and down freely. Paint on the doors is fair/good. They've been used over the years and could stand to have the weather stripping replaced. The hinges are fully functional but would also benefit from a fresh set. Weather stripping is about $50 a door and you can get a whole set of new hinges for as cheap as $45. Dings, Scratches and Fading are typical of age and are in-line with the condition of the rest of the Jeep. I believe they are the original white paint. I used these doors along with the hard top last winter.
I'm also including in the sale a set of YJ steel half doors!!! These did not come with this Jeep. I've bought a lot Jeep parts from Midwest Jeeps in Vincennes, IN and these got thrown in on a bundle deal. They are white and the odds of me getting another White YJ a pretty low so I'm throwing them in. They are in fair condition but they are complete. Half Doors aren't cheap, even in fair condition these doors are probably worth around $400 + shipping cost here on EBAY. I've never had them on this Jeep. See pics.
Top: (3 options w/ rolling hard top cart and Soft top carry/storage bag)
Comes with the Original White hard top. Its in Good shape. Solid, no cracks. Has some wrinkled old tint on the back glass. The latch mechanism needs some attention. You have to reach in and pull the cables to release the back glass. This is why the trim that covers the cables and latch is missing. I don't have the missing trim. The top has the electric plug for the 3rd brake light and the Jeep has the factory hard-top wiring harness to connect it to.I AM ALSO INCLUDING THE HARD TOP CART SHOWN IN THE PICTURES. I build these off plans I found on the internet. Made from carpeted, pressure treated lumber. It rolls around VERY smoothly on a nice set of locking urethane casters. This cart was built brand new Spring 2019 when the Hard Top came off for the season.
The Jeep also comes with a newer Black Soft Top (Rampage Brand) and a complete soft top frame. The Windows have the black tinted option and the plastic is in GREAT SHAPE. Very Clear. Like NewThe soft top also comes with a really nice Zip UP carry/storage bag for the Windows with felt dividers. (shown above the half doors in the last couple pics)
Finally the Jeep comes with a BRAND NEW Best Top summer bikini top shown in the pictures. Gray in color.
Audio:
Dual XRM47BT Single DIN AM/FM Receiver with Bluetooth
Small Floor speaker box under dash in front of shifter with 2 Scosche 5.25" speakers
Larger speaker box in back cargo space with 2 Scosche 6X9" Speakers
All Work.
Warranty:
This should go with out saying given the age of this vehicle but I am offering no warranty, either expressed or implied, on the Jeep or any parts or labor regarding the work that has been done. This Jeep is being sold: As-Is. Where-Is.Ebay Auctions are no different than any other auctions. If you're the high bidder when its over...you bought it.
Other Notes:
The jack is missing from its mount in the engine compartment. The driver seat belt has been repaired. (can be seen in one the of pics of the driver seat)
Summary:
I've done my best to give the most accurate and honest description of this 30 year old, un-restored Jeep.Very Solid and has had A LOT of money invested into mechanical maintenance done to do it.However, it is a 30 year old, un-restored Jeep. It does not run, ride, sound or look like a new Jeep. There are squeaks, rattles, clinks and clanks. Scratches, scuffs and blemishes. Please use the zoom feature on the pics to look it over thoroughly. If you're looking for a super solid old YJ that's ready to enjoy on road or off, this is a great find.If you're looking for a YJ restoration candidate...I doubt you'll find a better starting point.
