Land Rover Series III 109" 3 door wagon 1979
Description
1979 Land Rover Series III 3 door left-hand drive station wagon with 2.6 litre 6 cylinder gas engine, overdrive and safari (tropical) roof. The "mileage" shown on the odometer is actually approximately 57,000 kilometers (approx. 33,500 miles). (The VIN (unrecognized by eBay) is: 94421356C. I imported this car from Europe fully intending to do a 200TDi engine conversion. Unfortunately for me, due to a death in our family, I will not have the shop space I was expecting to do the work and since I'm moving in the next few months I really can't store this car until something else comes along. Anyway...
This is a great 109! The truck had a restoration in Hungary in 2010 and was certified by a FIVA (Federation Internationale Des Vehicules Anciens) inspection in 2011 as being original in every respect: frame, motor, body panels. It has an engine bay mounted FIVA ID plate (picture 7 on the left side), FIVA window stickers and I have all of the official documentation. This is why I purchased this vehicle; I wanted to start my conversion without having to restore previous mistakes. The vehicle is currently titled, registered and located in Washington State.
There are no rust issues - you'll only see the superficial stuff on the springs, and other exposed raw steel components. The frame (painted, not galvanized) and bulkheads are completely solid and free of rot. The interior is amazing. The truck received new seats, door cards, headliner and carpets when it was restored, and they are all still in beautiful condition. It also has nearly new BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires on the ground. Everything works, including the spectacular vintage driving lamps & backup floods. The truck has overdrive fitted as well as free wheeling front hubs and a safari (tropical) roof, The engine compartment has very nice sound proofing material installed. The engine runs well, but it does smoke (exhaust) a bit - most likely needs a valve job; I haven't checked because I was going to put in a diesel anyway. The transmission, transfer cases, overdrive and free-wheeling hubs all work as they should. The appearance is great although the matte green paint job is about seven years old and there are defects (scratches and chips) here and there. There is a small black sticker on each front door (under the window) identifying the restoration shop.
I believe this Series was originally a military vehicle. It is a 12 volt system and is set up with a push button start and dashboard kill switch - also a battery mains isolator - really cool to use.
Since I purchased the truck I have changed the oil and filter and rebuilt the carburettor and AC canister-type fuel filter (needed new seals). I haven't had to do anything else so far. The truck was garaged since restoration by the previous owner and is garaged by me; so it's bone dry and the cabin smells (and is) clean. The truck doesn't leak leak any fluids. I wouldn't even consider selling this truck if my shop situation hadn't changed so drastically.
This is a rare, original 2.6 litre-w/-overdrive-equipped Series III 109. That said, the price reflects the fact that the engine probably needs a valve job.I am a Land Rover hobbyist and I'm still learning. I also drive a restored Series IIa 88 which I'll never sell. I am happy to answer questions but am not an expert. I encourage you to visit and inspect the car. . Please call or text (probably better) and leave me your best contact number and a good time to call: Norm 360-490-0247. I drive long haul and am not home much so if I don't answer your inquiry right away it's because I'm away from a cell connection.
