Description

Your are bidding on and hopefully buying my wonderful 1974 Series III Safari Wagon - Gwenevre. This has been a trusty traveling companion for 8 years and now it's time to go a bit bigger. This truck is unlike any series land rover in the US. I have made extensive modifications to make it fun, safe, and comfortable to drive on our highways. The list is long and I have done most of the work myself and can attest to how it was done. I strived to maintain the patina of the vehicle while restoring the mechanicals whenever possible. I am not a purest and have upgraded where possible to items that are more common in the USA. This would make a fun vehicle to drive every day anywhere. Under my ownership it has not seen any winter driving and was garage stored from October to May each year. It has traveled to California and to Maine and many spots between. It's not perfect as no series vehicles are but it's one of best ones out there for really driving it! I hate to sell it and will probably regret it for the rest of my life. Below are some of the modifications that were made:

The Bad -There isn't much bad about the old girl but I'll try to be objective as possible:The paint is faded, mismatched and is kind of a patchwork quilt - I like it its patina to meThere is a very small amount of rust. The bulkhead was replace by the PO and it has a few small spots. I keep up on them and they are not getting worse. The cross bars above the gas tank have a some deterioration. They should be replaced at some point but are solid enough and have been coated to prevent further rust. The engine is not a common US engine and is difficult to get parts for. I always planned to replace it with a Mercedes or Rover one when it failed - its too damn reliable and never seems to miss a beat. It is a bity of dog but will do 60 MPH nicely. The seats came out of a Jeep - I know sacrilege for a rover. But they are leather, fit nicely and are way more comfy than the series ones for long hauls.Tires have good tread and are quality BFG KO - They are old and are starting to weather check a bit.All in all its old, noisy, rattles, and has its fair share of scratches and dents - don't expect a show car.
All that being said you won't drive another vehicle that gets more attention! Everywhere I go people stop me to talk about it. I even got pulled into Canadian Customs so they could ask me about the modifications (that one was scary but turned out to be just cool guys). Ask me any questions and i'll answer. feel free to contact me for a look in the UP of Michigan!
Thanks for looking!
