Description:
The Range Rover Classic revolutionized the auto industry in 1970 with its launch. No one had ever before seen suchan outstanding 4x4 vehicle. The permanent four-wheel drive, high and low gear ratio ranges, coil-spring suspension on the four corners with special ride leveling unit, powerful V8 and Land Rover type chassis, all combine to give the Range Rover a cross-country mobility that needs to be experienced to be believed. On the highways it is extremely comfortable and cruises easily at 65 MPH and it is equally at home in any off-road situation. Style, comfort, speed, outstanding off road as well ason roadride to the highest level and was so ahead of its time so it stayed in production for 25 years, almost unchanged to its original principles.
This exemplar is an early suffix C model year 1974, at the time production numbers where below 10,000.Differently to most of the left-hand drive RRC from era, which were CKD (complete knock down kits) assembled in Venezuela or Costa Rica, this RRC was manufactured and assembled in the Rover plant located in Solihull UK making it even rarer. The RRC was imported to by the British embassy were it served for over 20 years, it was then acquired by a private party from whom I purchased three years ago.It came equipped from factor with a 3.5 V8, fulltime four-wheel drive 4-speed manual transmission with high and low ratio and differential lock, factory optional power steering, factory optional headrest, and heater.
This matching numbers RRC was fully restored during a two-year process by a Land Rover expert with over 40 years of experience.During the Restoration, the paint was completely pealed down to the bare aluminum panels, minimal bodywork was required due to the incredible state of conservation it was in.Nonetheless, the front floor pans had required replaced and were meticulously replicated to match the original. Exterior and interior of the cabin were then finished in a basecoat-clearcoat paint as close as possible to the original Davos White finish, D post covered in correct black vinyl, all badges were replaced with OEM. All Brake, suspension, steering components were serviced or replaced with OEM parts. The chassis was stripped down to the bare metal and received several new coats of paint. The LT95 manual transmission was fully serviced and seals replaced to prevent oil leaks very common on Land Rovers. The 3.5 130bhp engine was overhauled completely, including ancillaries such as the Zenith-Stromberg 175CD type carburetors. The complete electrical system was redone, making sure all warning lights, warning sounds, gauges, lights, worked according to factory specifications. In the interior new period-correct carpet was installed, seats where reupholstered, original headliner was restored. All five tires were replaced with correct thread and size ones.
This is a very nicely restored early Range Rover Classic, I encourage prospects to come see it by themselves and test drive it, my description or pictures don’t make justice to this RRC, you must see it yourself. I will be glad to take it to any mechanic local to have inspected prior to completing a deal.
