Description

This is a 1988 Defender, not a 1980. Ebay wouldn't accept the VIN which is pictured. this is most likely because some imported this car from the UK along the line... I have a clear NJ title for this car. It went right through NJ Motor Vehicles, one of the most evil places out there.

Up for auction is my Right Hand Drive 1988 Defender, I have owned several land rovers and this one is one of the most drivable I have owned. (I have owned a 1964 series, I have a 1973 series, I have a 1975 101 forward control, I had a 1997 Defender 90).

This landy has new tires, and everything works. The doors shut well, the driver door hinges are painted with a poor match. The driver door window is harder than I like to roll up, but works fine.

Interior is very nice (for an old Landy, manual everything!). Heat works good, the blower motor is wired to a toggle switch. All lights work, including the rear fog lamps. There was no interior lamp when I bought it, so I put in an LED battery lamp, works great.

I have driven the Landy at 65 mph for 70 miles at a time without a hitch. It runs great (again, for what it is). I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to my house in the blue ridge mountains, 360 miles away. It just takes more time, and time to stretch the body.

It gets about 18 mpg, which is great for a landy, smokes when it starts, but this isn't a modern TDI, the previous owner put that sticker on the truck. This is old world diesel. a crappy radio, but it works, wipers work, horn, all lights, I have never tried to tow with it, so I don't know about trailer lights.

Underneath, it is rust free. It isn't a show car, but it is nice. Yes it leaks some oil, but very little.

This is a fun little truck, but I like my series 3 and the 101 better, this one is too refined for me.

The auction will start at $12k, then it goes without a reserve from there.
