Description
For sale is a 66, 1966 Lincoln Continental Four Door convertible with "suicide" or "kissing" doors. It is it's original colors: black body, black top, red interior. I have owned it in St. Louis since the late 80s, it spent a few years before me in Rural IL, but spent most of its early life in California. Only about 3160 of these cars were made. I consider it a good "driver" car. The car has little rust on it for being almost 50 yrs old in my opinion, but does have some small amounts of rust. It has a few small dings, some small paint chips and touch ups,the only real damage is the drivers back door is dented in. Not offered as a show ready car, but could get there with some improvements. The top leaks at the windshield, but I never take it out in the rain, bad seal. New seals are available online. Top is 25+ years oldand has a rip near top rear bow. The top mechanism works completely, unlatches itself from the windshield and stows itself. The trunk unlatches and opens for the top, then closes and latches. Glass back window. Car runs well. good strong engine, steady strong vacuum. With top and windows up, rear windows should drop when doors are opened. Mine do not. Common problem with these cars. I am told there is a relay in the door pillar that needs cleaned/adjusted/replaced. I never drove it with the top up. The transmission was rebuilt some time back, heads rebuilt on engine (hardened valves put in), new power steering pump. Otherwise, its pretty original. It has decentcustom vinylseat covers on it. Dash all works, Heat and A/C works and converted to 134. The string is broke in the heat/A/C display, knobturns, but needle doesn't follow. FactoryAM 8 track. Belt stretched on 8 track but motor runs. Factory Radio is not stellar. Cheap FM converter under dash. Blinker is finicky and tight, needs adjustment, lube? Has rare factory cruise (not working) and tilt wheel. Power vent Windows. All Power windows work. One switch toggle is broke but works. Easily found and replaced. 6 way Power seat just recently started acting up. I have never driven it in winter, and its probable seen rain 3 times in 25+ yrs. Garage kept. Autronic eye (auto dimming) headlights worked until about 3 yrs ago. I have an extra set up bought on ebay for parts or replacement, never installed. The rag joint on the steering needs replaced, but it drives fine, I've been driving it like that for 10+yrs. Recent new ball joint. good tires. Fun car to drive, gets a lot of attention. 462 engine. Dealer installed door edge guards. Has original front seat belts, I have added 3 rear sets and front center belts. Sold as-is. I have factory manuals for car, body, top, a/c. I drove it yesterday for about an hour,
A/C may need a charge.I am not a car dealer or a mechanic or have any experience as one. There are other small issues or imperfections as would be expected on a 50 year old unrestored car. I have owned this car and it has been incredibly reliable over the last 25+ years. I drove it on a 6 hr each way trip last fall, no problems. I am only getting rid of it because I inherited a convertible and can't keep both. These are all of the problems I can think of. Not guaranteeing there aren't a few more minor issues. Overall a good unrestored 50 yr old car in my opinion.
You can get one of the most unique convertibles made at a fraction of the restored prices you see on here. You can drive it until you want to restore it, or keep it as a daily driver as I have.
This is not a car for your 16 yr old kid. This is a car for someone who appreciates and understands old collector cars.
