1973 Mercedes 450SL Convertible w/ hardtop runs and drives 128k miles
Description
This is a semi started project 1973 450sl that runs and drives. The car is in need of restoration as shown in the pictures. I have had for about 3 years or more and when the car was first acquired it didn't run, as a result it had the plugs, wires, all replaced and the fuel tank drained to get it running. Once the car was running it needed to be adjusted to correct the idle, this was done according to factory specs and the car now warms and idles properly which is hard to do on some of these early fuel injected cars.
one or two of the front rubber break lines were replaced as well, the brakes function properly. A couple of the tie rod assemblies were also replaced. The body of the car is very clean, it has surface rust only on the outside and no dents. The paint is original well what is left of the paint is. The front actually shines up a bit and it doesn't appear the car has been in any accidents or had any body work at all.
Has 4 good tires without dry rot that do not leak. In 3 years they have not gone down at all. They are about 5 year old tires. The car is stored year round in a temperature controlled environment. The original hardtop is present. All the glass looks original too
This has a production date of October 1972 and is titled as a 1973. This car is from the 2nd year of production for the R107 SL chassis. The engine and transmission are very nice on this car, no leaks and work properly.
the wipers work and the engine sounds good, great donor drivetrain or restore. The drivers window is chipped on the top.
I have been meaning to make more progress on the car but it has been stored inside for the past 3 years and needs a new home. I am losing my space to keep it.
It was properly tuned and runs normally, the idle works as well and the engine sounds very healthy. It does have current plates but it doesn't get moved much. The blower motor does work as well, the gauges all work except the odometer. The wipers work as well.
The car will need the floor pans replaced, the drivers side is the worst and should be done first you still have some time to decide what to do on the passenger side. The hardtop is included and the soft top is too, the soft top is dry rotted and should be replaced. the frame is fine. New oem floor pans are about $350 from the local mb dealer here.
If you need more pictures or want to come do an inspection that is fine please let me know. I can answer more questions as well at (440) 231-5767
This car does have the flush fitting bumpers which generally sell for $1000 and these are in great shape. the rest of the rear bumper is in the trunk. There is no passenger seat or driver door panel that is how i got it. What your see is what i have for it.
sold as-is clean Ohio title in my name ready to go
Inspection by buyer is welcome and encouraged. The odometer doesn't work i believe.
