Description

I bought this car about 5-years ago for $2,500. ( No I DO NOT expect to get that for it! ) I had one of these after college & loved it so much, I decided to get another one. I kept it garaged for 2-3-years, then moved in 2017, and it has been sitting outside since (SORRY!) I have lately realized that this car is a lost dream, and I do not have time to restore it. Also it is parked at my mechanics shop, and he is moving to a new location, SO it has GOT TO GO ! WITHIN 12-14-DAYS. So, my loss is your gain. I'm willing to sell it CHEAP. I'm out of time to fool with this car anymore..
So, first off, I have no 'seller feedback' becuz this is my first 'selling auction'. I'm mainly a buyer on eBay, but there's a first time for everything, right ? I AM 100% HONEST -- I am looking for good 'seller feedback' -- and will answer any questions quickly and to the best of my ability.
Here's what I can tell you about the car now: it IS NOT perfect -- it is a RESTORATION PROJECT. For liability reasons, I've been told to say IT IS A PARTS CAR -- however, in my opinion, it is much more than that --it could make a good daily driver, or a valuable antique collectible. It DOES RUN -- and the car is 100% there, all original, except for the radio, I think (and I'm not sure if it works or not). I've lost the key and ordered a brand new one from the local dealership last week, and it came in today, but did not have time to go pick it up. I hava fully charged battery (the one in the engine pic is dead) that I will install that goes with it. It has fresh gas in it, as of a coupla months ago, which was the last time I cranked it up. I fully expect it to start tomorrow, but I needed to get this auction started today, so here we are.. I will post further comments if for some reason, it does not run tomorrow after I get the new key in my hands. You are welcome, and also ENCOURAGED to come by and look at it, hear it run, drive it up & down the parking lot, and/or take it to a local mechanic, to get it checked out, if you are so inclined. I am not hiding anything, and will to the best of my knowledge will describe everything I know about the car next..
When I got it, I installed a new air filter, had the carb cleaned, ran a full tank of fresh gas through it (premium only), changed out the anti-freeze, oil change, etc. -- did all the normal things to it you do to an old car when you buy one -- then garaged it for a while, waiting for time to play with it (start restoring it), a time which, sadly, never came. Now it MUST BE MOVED within 15-days, so when this auction ends, you have 5-days to come pick it up. NO LONGER ! If I can, I will put a very low deposit amount on it, BUT will have it NON-REFUNDABLE, as I have NO TIME for BS!This car MUST BE MOVED in 15-days, and I have no room anywhere to put it, so please PLEASE DO NOT BID on it if you are not going to BUY IT. -P-L-E-A-S-E- !!!
OK, the mileage says somewhere around 23,000 on the odometer. I'm pretty sure the correct mileage is 123,000. but the title says 'EXEMPT' where the mileage is because it's over 100,000. and that's the way S.Carolina does things I suppose. I assume it's because the odometer does not show 6-digits, and it's over 100,000. Anyways, even though the title says 'exempt', I think the odometer's correct (add 100,000).
Other issues that I know about :-paint looks original, but some rust is 'bubbling up' through it in spots (see pics).-I did my best to show all the 'hot spots' but there may be more than pictured-there is some 'bubbling up' around the sun-roof that I did not get a good pic of-the sunroof DOES NOT LEAK, as far as I'm aware, as the rest of the car also does not leak that I'm aware of. NO evidence of leaking in cab. No smell.-car was not smoked in, as far as I can tell - I certainly did not smoke in it..-interior is in decent shape -- dash board is cracked in places, as they all do.-interior is NOT perfect, but is not bad - carpet in good shape - driver rear seat is torn at the top - I think you can see it in one of the rear pics - but that's it..-the 'rear deck' carpet is not in great shape, but the flooring carpet is good.-one of the 'map-holders' on one of the doors is broken off, but have the part.- I will attempt to add interior pics later - forgot to take some earlier today..-brakes worked decent last time I drove, but were 'spongy' - expect to rebuild-for that reason ALONE, you should not attempt to 'drive this car home'..-but you can if you want- up to you, but until you pay for it, the best I can do is let you drive it up and down my mechanics parking lot (it's pretty long!), but, in my name, it is only insured to 'sit still' - not currently insured for the road.-OH, the A/C -- believe it or not, it DOES WORK - well it worked when I bought it -- it worked about a year ago LAST summer, but it was fading, so I bought a coupla cans of R-12 off eBay, to 'charge it up', but never got around to it, but you can have the cans of R-12, if I can find them - have 2-full un-opened, old-school 'short cans' - not sure, but probably 10-16-oz each..? (they're the regular sized cans that the R-12 refrigerant used to come in).-car does have electric windows, and I think I remember them all working except one of the rear-windows doesn't work, but they're those little tiny 'vent-like' windows that are useless (except in maybe a convertible) and you'll probably never use them -- also the sunroof worked last time I tried it, but it was a while ago, and I haven't wanted to test it over the past year or so, becuz it's been sitting outside, and I didn't wanna start it leaking in the interior - car DOES NOT LEAK into the interior now, anywhere, as far as I can tell. The driver's door handle kind of 'stuck' last time I opened the driver's door earlier today, so the door does not latch properly, but I think a little WD-40 or some graphite 'spray' will loosen it up, so it works 100% -- It's the thing you push with your thumb to open the door that's stuck in a little bit, but just enough to keep the latching mechanism from re-opening, so it doesn't 'catch' when you close the door, but the latching mechanism works, or will work as soon as I can get the 'thumb button' un-stuck.-that's all I can think of -- 4-rims are original w/original Mercedes 'hub caps', matching the car color. tires are used, but OK, no leaks, and are all about the same amount of tread left as the one in the picture..
Again, the car ran great last time I drove it a coupla months ago -- and unless Istate differently in an edit, it still runs good -- I'll know for sure after I pickup thenew key tomorrow. The carb will probably need to be rebuilt, at some point, cuzyou do have to 'pump it' some to get it started, but it warms up nicely, then idles decent,& drives fine. At least up and down the parking lot where it resides -- have not had itup to highway-speeds recently, so can't vouch for the quality of highway-ride, or wheelbearings, suspension parts or alignment, or top-speed, etc. It ran GREAT at highwayspeed last time I had it up to highway speed. Transmission shifted properly, andsmoothly - And it is an automatic, and I believe it's a 4-speed, if I remember correctly.
