Description
1985 euro Mercedes 500sec = small bumpers, bigger horsepower, euro headlights, Webasto heater, Ronal Penta rims and AMG ground effects.
ENGINE NUMBER: 11796312070741 Sounds great pulls strong.
VIDEOS AVAILABLE - EMAIL me with your address and I can send a video of the engine running and driving - boring stuff but may help.
Ad says "1980" but it would not let me post the auction due to a euro VIN number so by posting it as a pre 1981 car it allowed me to post it.
I rescued this car from a life sitting in the previous owners yard. No idea why he parked it. Could be because the WUR was not operating when I got it - it has since been replaced.
No rust no wrecks - straight and solid. Runs drives engine sounds good with no valve train noise or smoke.
As such, sitting in the New Mexico sun did no favors to the paint. It is flaking on mostly on the roof and some other small areas of the car .
Some of the photos are prior to me installing new Yokohama tires. They have less than 50 miles on them. They are mounted to a very nice set of undamaged Ronal AMG penta style rims.
The car has the period AMG ground effects. These are very nice and straight with only minor scrape and crack to front valance see pics (typical parking stop type damage).
Compression is within the normal range with no significant loss. These Euro models had higher compression engines and significantly higher horsepower than the US models making them desireable.
The car has the rare Webasto auxilery gas fired heater. It has not been tested but is completely intact.
The leather seats can use conditioning. The major damage is the passenger seat bolster is blown out. The drivers side is fine. The rear seats are intact and need conditioning.
I'm assuming the dash has some cracks beneath a glued on aftermarket cap cover. It looks presentable but need to be clear about that.
The wood is mostly fine with the exception of some delaminating to the far left drivers panel next to the door.
The car needs a good cleaning but does not have any weird smells, rodents, or cigarette smell.
Automatic seat belts still work.
The car is registered, insured and tagged in my name. Clear title.
Work that was done:Oil/Filter change Mobil 1New fuel injectorsRebuilt WURNew Plug wires, rotor, cap and plugsNew fuel pumpNew tiresNew batteryNew thermostatAntifreeze flushNew tranny fluid
Needs:Sunroof has been taped - never even tried to open it out of fear of not being able to close it - I'm sure it needs some sort of work. Not everything has been tested such as switches, radio etc...so other issues may be found....
Comes with the proper rear trunk badge not pictured - the original was lost and the previous owner used some stick-on letters.
I bought this to restore when I found a vintage BMW I decided to focus my funds on and I don't have the space for both.Mileage may change as the car is still driven.
This can be a great deal based on how the car is equipped and all the work $$ that has already been done. However, the no reserve auction does reflect that it does still need work and you should bid accordingly. Offers/trades are welcome but I prefer to let the auction run it's course. 90% of what is still needed is cosmetic.
It is sold as-is as a driveable "project". You can drive while you restore. No promises or guarantees. It's an old car requiring much TLC.I do not suggest driving this home unless you belong to AAA. It's an old car that has not had enough road time to verify any potential glitches. This can be anything from hoses and belts to water pump or alternators that commonly go south when old.The car is yours once you win the auction. Please bid accordingly. I will not refund the deposit of you have a change of heart. Full payment is due in 7 days.
I can hold the car for 3 weeks while you arrange the most economical way to pick it up. Try "U-ship" online for bids on your shipping job.
I WELCOME FULL OR PARTIAL TRADES FOR VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES - MUST AGREE BEFORE YOU BID
I prefer european and british bikes but I will consider late eighties early nineties japanese/euro sportbikes.
Depending on the model of the bike I may consider project bikes or no titles bikes.
