Description

My 1985 Mercedes-Benz 280GE is a right-hand drive, two-door wagon that was imported from the UK to Florida before being purchased by me in 2014 for use as a daily driver in the District of Columbia. Power is provided by a 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The fender flares and grille were painted to match the body under previous ownership, while I had the alternator, fuel system components, and shocks replaced. It is an honest, reliable car my wife and I drive almost daily. There are rust spots on the body and some on the undercarriage, but nothing that impacts the structural integrity - it is cosmetic. I am selling it due to an upcoming move overseas and will provide the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean District of Columbia title in my name. This car gets more attention than the exotics at local car shows - it is very cool and a pleasure to own.
The exterior is finished in silver, and the fender flares and grille were painted to match the body by the previous owner. There is a bit of corrosion at the bottom of the cargo door, below the taillights, in several body seams, and along the sills. A gap is evident between the left front flare and fender.
Painted 16″ alloy wheels are shod in 31″x10.5″ Primewell Valera HT tires, and a covered spare is mounted at the rear along with a tow ball. The front end features driving lights, a bumper-mounted recovery point, and headlamp guards.
Stock tartan door panels are present inside, as are custom-ordered cloth seat panels used in Mercedes-Benz SEL models. The truck is equipped with manually-operated windows and seats, window tint, vinyl front floor covers, and a cloth cargo mat.

The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 39k miles, approximately 25k of which have been added during the my five-year ownership. An older Sony cassette stereo is fitted in the dash, and the truck is not equipped with air conditioning. The driver’s door squeaks when opened and closed.

The 2.8-liter M110 inline-six sends power to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Maintenance performed under the seller’s ownership reportedly included replacement of the alternator as well as the fuel pump, filter, and lines. The shocks are also reported to have been replaced under current ownership.
I am happy to answer questions to the best of my ability. I love this truck and know whoever buys it will be getting one of the coolest cars on the road.
