Description (Be sure you use your browser's inner scroll bar to scroll through all 100 photos below) 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Automatic Transmission I have been maintaining this car at my shop for years. The current owner bought it in 1999 from the original owner, a gentleman he used to play golf with near his winter home in Florida. He has asked me to sell it for him due to health reasons. While it isn’t completely original and correct down to every nut and bolt, it is a very nice looking car. It is an excellent driving car, not perfect, but a great driver that’s been well maintained. The car had some rust issues (floors, trunk, rockers) when the current owner bought it from the original owner in 1999. It was restored between 2000-2001. There is a photo album documenting the restoration, some of those photos are included in the photos accompanying this auction. There are photos of the car ‘'BEFORE” restoration, in its original white color, as well as one with the current owner and the previous owner. There are also photos of the car in bare metal, etc. The body tag was not re-attached after the restoration and must have been lost, as it is not on the car. The VIN tag is on the car and present, just not the color code tag. Fenders don’t show spot welds under the hood, but they do have their ‘notches’ near the headlights. The underside of the car was undercoated after undergoing rust repair. There are many, many receipts and service records. Just in the past couple of years a lot of work was done. I didn’t take the hard top off for the photos... we had the hard top off not too long ago, and it is in good condition, no rips or tears and it has a clean / clear back window. It was replaced during the restoration. This car and its owner (and his wife) is one of just two cars to have participated in all 5 Walleye 1000 Vintage Rallies between 2012 and 2016. The Walleye 1000 is a classic car tour that covers between 500-600 miles in two days every June along the Mississippi River in Minnesota and Wisconsin (google it to learn more). There are some photos of this car on that event over the years. It has never had an issue, ever, on that event. It has always been maintained before and after the event to make sure all was in order. There are books / manuals with the car, service records and the restoration photo album.
