1960 MGA MKI 1600 Roadster Nice Restoration Rust Free Great Driving Car
Up for auction is a rust free matching numbers 1960 MGA MKI 1600 roadster that is in excellent driving and running condition. This MGA was built in October1959 (Chassis # GHNL/76793, Engine # 16GA/U/1802, Body # B9347) and has its original 1588 cc engine (1600) and 4 speed gearbox. Mileage reads 10,110 understood to be 110K. It was owned by the previous owner for more than 25 years who meticulously maintained it and kept it garaged and covered. It had undergone a full frame-on high quality restoration during the 1990’s. The car comes with its original Jack and tool roll, new tonneau cover, new side curtains, convertible top, car cover, workshop manual and some extra parts. This car hasfront wheel disc brakes and rear drums, 80 HP and can run at 80 MPH all day long. Top speed is 96 mph.
Overall Condition: The car is registered in New York State, passed its annual New York State safety inspection and garaged in Huntington, Long island. The body panels are straight and rust free along with its solid and rust free frame. The car starts right up and runs strong all day long and drives nice. It is very smooth with great acceleration and good brakes. It was restored frame-up in the 1990’s and was repainted a couple shades off from its original Chariot Red. Paint is still in good condition and the body panels are nice and straight and rust free. The MGA really needs nothing that I can see except a good deep polish and wax. With its badges, fog light, mesh grill and decals here and there, it has an enthusiast owned quality to it.
Mechanicals:The MGA runs and drives great. You turn the key, hear the fuel pump tick, pull the choke out two clicks and the engine starts right up. The engine runs very strong and does not smoke or have any oil leaks. Once the engine warms up after a couple of minutes you push the choke in and off you go. Engine idles around 800 rpms. Engine acceleration is nice and smooth and it has a nice firm ride with no rattles or squeaks. Oil pressure is strong at 60 psi and engine revs quickly to 6000 rpms without hesitation. Seating is comfortable and everything works as it should. Its a lot of fun to drive.
Engine was rebuilt when the car was restored but I have no receipts. It has new paint, clean rockers, head and oil pan, 60 lbs of oil pressure and doesn’t leak oil or smoke.
Engine and gearbox are original to the car. Radiator has been flushed and all hoses replaced along with a new water pump, thermostat and belt. Engine runs cool with no overheating at all…. The battery is new and charging system works fine.
The gearbox is the factory original 4 speed unit and all four gears and reverse work perfect without any noises or clunks. Shocks, steering, suspension and brakes are all in very good working order, needing nothing. Clutch feels perfect.
NEW parts:
New tune up parts: new wires, plugs, spark plugs, distributer cap, electronic ignition, new oil and gas filters
New brake lines, pads, brake, clutch and slave master cylinder, flex hoses
Rebuilt Carburetors, new K&N air filters (retained original)

Body: The car was painted sometime in the mid-nineties and currently is in very good condition with no dings or dents or no major scratches but can use a good deep polish. All body panels are original to the car. The doors gaps are tight, engine bonnet and deck lid are straight as an arrow. The door jams are rust free, wooden floors are solid and in good condition, outer sills, wheel wells and frame are all rust free . The frame literally looks like it’s a 10 year old car – battery boxes are still in tack and no rot anywhere. Windshield is new, rubber under windshield is good, bumpers and chrome all very good condition.
Interior:The dash was recovered at some point and gauges, buttons and knobs are all working. Carpets are ok with usual wear and tear. Leather seats were reupholstered and are in good condition. The original “bango”steering wheel still has its factory leather wrap in- tact.
The car is sold “AS IS” with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold “WHERE IS” in Huntington, New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer.
I have set a reasonable reserve on the car. GrundyClassic Car Insurance Co has valued my MGA at $25,000.Good rust free MGA’s are getting harder to find with original factory tools and jack and are getting very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts.
