Description

You are bidding on a 1979 MGB. I purchased the car from a long-term owner (25+ years) who had used the MG sparingly as a summer toy in the small town ofChathamin South Western Ontario. Prior to that this MG was aTorontocar, sold new at ‘Ashley Motors’ a prominent BMC dealer inNorth Toronto. The car has always been enthusiast owned, stored indoors & has never seen a winter as evidenced by a body that remains inremarkablyoriginal condition. The MG is absolutely rust& accidentfree...all original body panels are straight and with excellent panel fitment. The floors, rocker panels, inner sills, etc are all original and totally rust free. The car did receive oneprofessionalrespray in its original ‘Vermillion’ in the mid 1990’s,the paintis excellent however, there are some minor imperfections that have been touched up but nothing noteworthy or out of the ordinary for a 46 year old car. Overall the car shows extremely well & can be shown at any classic or British car event with pride.

The rest of the exterior is in similar condition and is offered with a rare factory hardtop, along with it’s original convertible top and a full-length tonneau cover. Both tops are inexcellent conditionwith clear windows and no damage to the material or seals. The MG’s road wheelsreceived a professional refinishingand sport new polished trim rings and center caps along with brand new GoodYear tires (175/70R14) with less than 50 miles on them.

The interior is all original and extremely well preserved; the dashboard, door cards and interior panels are all in great shape with no cracks or fading. The original black seats show well and are free of any rips, tears or fading. The carpet is all there and intact, but at 40 years old it does show some discoloration and age. Period correct accessory ‘cocoa’ floor mats are installed on top of the factory carpeting. The trunk is totally rust free, and the original paint is extremely well preserved, as if the trunk has hardly been used. Included in the trunk is a matching spare wheel, factory jack and tonneau cover support bar, complete with original storage bags.

The MGB starts easily, idles well, pulls strong on the road with no smoke or hesitation and holds good oil pressure (60+lbs hot). The factory electric cooling fan works well, and the car does not over heat, even when idling in hot weather. On the road the car feels confident with no vibrations, clunks or rattles, it shifts well and brakes strong. All electronics and accessories work as they should including lights, heater controls and blower, wipers, horn, radio, etc. The only exception is the fuel gauge which seems to read ¼ tank all the time. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.

Included with the car is a folder of bills and receipts for maintenance and work done on the car dating back to 1987. The receipts validate the current 5-digit odometer reading of ‘05148’ as ‘105,148’ original Kilometers – being a Canadian car the speedometer and odometer read in kilometer, this converts to approximately 65,000 original miles. Among the receipts is one from 1991 for a complete set of engine gaskets, as a result this MGB, unlike any other, doesn’t leak oil anywhere!

Work completed within the last year includes:

-Tires

-Battery

-Alternator

-Rebuilt fuel pump & new rear fuel lines

- Clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder & hose

-Front brake flex lines

-New air filter

-All fluids flushed

-Spark plugs

-Carburetor professionally tuned

This car is a great survivor having never been apart or restored; it has been used sparingly and driven with care, and its condition certainly reflects that. It’s not a perfect car, but it is mechanically safe, reliable, extremely solid and original, and would make a great fair-weather driver that would show well at your local cruise night or MG meet.

I have tried to take pictures of all aspects of the car including the underside, however I don't have a hoist and took them lying underneath. If you want specific pics please feel free to ask, I will do my best to accommodate. Ask as many questions as you like, I will respond quickly & as accurately as I can.

Inspections of the car can be arranged and are welcome, however I’d ask that if you want to inspect the car that you arrange to do so BEFORE you bid.

I am willing to ship WORLDWIDE & will assist with shipping arrangements.

Note: For European Buyer’s, I can have this car shipped to any European destination for approx $1.5KUSD, this would put it at the closest port to your home destination

Given that I am located inCanada, someUSand offshore buyers maybe reluctant to purchase given the border crossing and or importation paperwork required to import the vehicle to their home destination… I can assist with providing the buyer with contact information to an international transportation company (specializing in relocating vintage & classic cars worldwide) that will safely and at a reasonable cost transport the vehicle I have personally used this company several times and have been extremely pleased with the pick-up & delivery.
