Paint / Body: This vehicle still has its original paint. The factory paint is called "Light Briar Brown". (Code 62) The paint is in very nice condition with a great shine. Looking down the sides of the car and see how straight and nice the body panels are. The body panel fit and alignment is good and are free of any door dings, dents or scratches. The only issue we saw was some wear rub marks on the top four edges on the two front fenders and two rear quarter panels. (See close up photos #38-41.) The story from one of the past owners was at one point, the vehicle was on a flatbed tow truck and some yahoo used two straps over the trunk and hood to secure the vehicle. Long story short, the car now has the four marks on the edges of the fenders and quarters. The current owner didn't want to touch them up, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to use a small touch up brush and make it less noticeable. The driver's front fender also has a small wave or dent where the strap was too tight. There are no signs of rust or rust repairs. The car is very solid and we can only assume it was kept out of any winter driving. The original owner wanted to make sure this vehicle was protected. They added undercoating to the bottom of the doors and rocker panels. Most of that is still there. The current owner used Kerosene (tar remover) on some areas to show everyone how nice the areas are protected and will look if it was removed. (See photo #49) The car has a full padded vinyl roof (Dark Briar Brown, Code 67) also with factory painted on pinstripping that matches the roof color.
Exterior Trim: All of the exterior trim pieces are original and in excellent condition. The chrome bumpers don't show any dulling, fading, pitting, or oxidation. All the exterior emblems, bezels, grilles, taillight lens, and the moldings all look amazing. All four of the headlights are working, even though one of the high beams is looking a little darker. The original plastic bumper fillers still look good with only one crack in the left rear section. (See photo #29)
Interior: The "Dark Briar Brown" interior is all original and in excellent condition. It shows very little, if any wear. No rips, tears, stains, or holes. The factory plush carpet is clean and with very little wear. The door panels, arm rests, dash pad and all the other interior items are in very nice shape. All of the electrical items are working correctly including the factory air conditioning which blows cold.(New air conditioning compressor) The interior trim pieces, switches, knobs, handles, buttons, and other items are all beautiful. There are no "Service Soon" or "Check Engine" lights illuminated. The headliner is original and nice, but with all these older vehicles, the foam on the back side of the headliner starts to break down. If the headliner is touched, the imprint stays there. (Doesn't spring back)
Engine Compartment: The engine compartment is very clean and original looking. This is the original 5.0 Liter V8 engine that came with the car. It only has 70K original miles. It runs great with no known problems. It doesn't smoke or tick. It was recently serviced. See the "Mechanical" section below for more details.
Trunk Compartment: The trunk compartment has all the factory carpet installed. The gray carpet shows no wear but is dirty in spots. Not sure if it could be cleaned or washed to make it look new again. The spare tire, jack and jacking tools are all in their correct location.
Glass: All of the tinted glass is in great shape. The windshield doesn't have any major chips, nicks, scratches, or wiper marks. All of the side power windows go up and down without any problems. The rear window has a defogger.
Wheels / Tires: The original 15" rims have the optional wire wheel disc. (Hubcaps) They look good and aren't scratches or dented up. Mounted on these rims are four new tires, size 235/75R15. They have the period correct size white wall and look great on the car. The car rides smooth with no vibrations and doesn't pull left or right.
Undercarriage: I'm sure this low mileage vehicle spent a lot of time in the garage. The chassis and underside is clean, solid, and rust free. It is not detailed but is very original looking.
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside.
The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why we took a few pictures of the bottom.
Mechanical: Engine/Transmission:
This 1984 Ninety-Eight is equipped with its original 5.0 Liter (307 Cu. In.) V8 engines that only has 70K original miles. Before the current owner purchased the vehicle 4 months ago, the car was being stored for a few years. Not taking any chances, he sent the car to his mechanic and told him to go over the entire vehicle. Oil change and filter. The cooling system was flushed and a new radiator was installed along with new hoses. The air conditioning system received a new compressor and then recharged with new freon. It has no leaks and it blows cold. A new battery was installed. The automatic transmission is also working great and it shifts out very nice and does not slip, jerk, or leak.
Brakes:
The entire power brake system was gone over. All new brake lines, hoses, pads, rotors, etc... The old fluid was flushed and new fluid was added. There are no leaks or other problems with the brake system. The brakes do not squeal, fade, pull or pulsate.
Suspension:
Power steering. No problems or issues. The front shocks are new. The vehicle has a nice factory stance and rides nice and smooth. It drives straight and doesn't pull or shake at high speeds.
Exhaust:
The exhaust system is all new from the catalytic converter back. It's in great shape with no problems or leaks.
