1956 Packard Clipper Custom Constellation 275 HP 4 Barrel 2 Door Hardtop
Description
All original 1956 Packard Clipper Custom Constellation. One out of 1466 produced. This piece of art was parked in a shed/shack by its original owner 37 years ago in Fontana California due to a bad timing chain. I was told he would use the vehicle to show on the weekend in the late 70’s - early 80’s. I’m 90% sure the 62,000 miles on the car are original miles do to deteriorated receipts found in trunk, car show entrance tickets, miscellaneous show brochures, cleanliness of the chassis and over all condition of the vehicle when it was pulled out last year.
I had absolutely no intentions of selling this work of art, but I am so busy with work that I cannot enjoy it. I’m a strong believer in a car needs to be driven and not sit parked in a garage. So I’ve decided to list her.
The body is Super straight with no dents, very minor dents in some areas of the moldings, original patina, no rust, only surface. Everything works and nothing is missing. Other than the “om” letters in “custom” script on both fenders. The bottom of the door panel moldings for both sides are in the trunk along with the driver side seat cap.
The two items not original to the car is the radiator and air filter. Both were stolen at some point within the years.
Tires, radiator, air cleaner, sealed beam headlights new. Carburetor is rebuilt, timing chain replaced, all 16 lifters are new, points condenser, wires, plugs, wheel cylinders, fluids etc. I also had dual glass pack mufflers installed that are quiet until the engine is reved high or gears down shifted that have a real nice note. I also added the seat covers.
The car has a lot of power, drives real smooth. I drive it anywhere and everywhere I can when I take it out.
Couple of things I never compleated was the 3/16 hoses that go to the intake, vacuum canister and back to the windshield wiper motor. So I capped them off. The driver side seat at the bottom (seen in picture) is broken at a weld where I have placed a clip. There is a slight transmission oil leak which I believe is coming from the cooler line. And another slight power steering fluid leak if the wheels are turned to the max in either direction.
Interior and paint and you have a show car. Or drive it as is.
