Description

MoPar fans take note! This 1970 Plymouth Road Runner is one striking example of Plymouth's early '70s design and engineering wizardry. It sports a great looking exterior for maximum curb appeal and it's original drivetrain is intact and running with conviction, joined by some top tier aftermarket components to up both its power game and overall driving experience. The Rallye red paint draped over its classic muscle car form provides a fitting vintage look as it... sits in very strong condition, with nice even coloring under a strong clearcoat to produce a nice deep shine. The broad white stripe running down the center of the hood, bracketed by smaller stripes to each side, is no mere decal - it's painted on to mimic the color pattern this venerable Plymouth had when it left the factory while the '70s were getting under way. Clean, level chrome bumpers sit both fore and aft and if you take a lap around the car, you'll notice that it's in good alignment on all sides, with nice even gaps surrounding the body panels as well as doors, hood and deck lid that open and close smoothly. The chrome trim surrounding the windows also presents very well and the cabin itself is surrounded by clear glass on all sides. This is a very well-finished classic that's aesthetically in great form. The interior has been refurbished in white vinyl while retaining its factory configuration and looks very sharp. You won't find much sign of use inside the cabin, so the white vinyl bucket seats and rear bench seat, bracketed by matching door panels on the sides, still sport fresh looking covers that show no wrinkling nor discoloration. A Hurst pistol-grip shifter sits within easy reach, beckoning you to take hold and put this performance machine through its paces. In front of the stock Road Runner steering wheel, the dash area features a full complement of still fully-functional factory gauges in its cluster, joined by an aftermarket Sun tach, with a clean, straight black pad across the top. The trunk area in back is both roomy and in good order, with a full-size spare in plain view and a clean liner on its floor. This Road Runner was well-equipped for power and performance when it left the assembly line and a few well-chosen upgrades take its abilities even further. The original, numbers matching 383 cubic inch V8 still presides over the engine bay, already capable of producing 335 horsepower when it first set rubber to asphalt. An Edelbrock dual plane intake manifold, as well as a 4-barrel Holley Street Demon carb have been added to the mix to maximize output, while an Accel Superstack coil maximizes spark through a recently added new wiring harness. The engine is pulling strong, as you'd expect, and sounds great through its stainless Street Pro dual exhaust. The powerplant sits in a very well-detailed engine bay, with its black MoPar-badged valve covers and chrome air cleaner providing a great contrast to the bright red inner fender walls, pairing with a 4-speed A833 manual transmission to provide a very compelling "hands on" driving experience. A generously proportioned aluminum radiator sits up front to keep engine temperatures in check. The suspension has been upgraded with a number of new components, including a QA1 K-frame, upper and lower control arms and front sway bar, so handling and ride quality are definite strong suits for this classic as it rolls on its set of 15" Magnum rims outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials. A sharp-looking, strong running classic MoPar muscle car like this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner is always a joy to behold and an even greater joy to put in your garage. Call today!
