Up for auction is a true unrestored survivor 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. This is a real numbers matching 383 high performance Air Grabber 4 speed car with the original 8.75 rear end. This car has spent the majority of its entire life in Northern California before being brought to Northern Idaho in 2014 where it had been parked until July 2020. This car had spent the last 20 years in storage and was not road driven until recently. This car has had one owner since 1989 and is believed to be a 2 owner vehicle.
This Road Runner has a vin of RM23H9G178211, breaking down as follows: 1969 Road Runner 2 door hardtop (non-post) 383 high performance 4bbl built in St. Louis, MO. This car retains its original data tag on the driver's side inner fender verifying all options as follows: R11 2 watt AM radio, V21 performance hood treatment, V7X black accent stripes, A01 light package, G33 outside left hand remote racing mirror, J25 3 speed wipers, L31 fender mounted turn signal indicators, M21 roof drip rail moldings, N96 fresh air hood, Y2 Sunfire yellow paint, H2X deluxe black vinyl bench seat interior, X9 black painted upper door panels, B29 build date (29th day of November 1969), E63 383 cid 4bbl V8 H.P. 335hp, D21 4 speed manual transmission.
The numbers matching 383 V8 remains in the car and still retains its original 4615S (4 speed specific) Carter 4 barrel carburetor with matching float bowl tag and stamped base. The previous owner indicated that the transmission had been replaced in the early 1990s due to worn syncros and was replaced with an identical A-833 4 speed transmission from another 1969 Road Runner 383 car, vin #RM23H9E125625. This transmission has the same C 99129 case as the original transmission that came in this car. The original 8.75 rear end remains in the car with the desirable 2881489 or "489" housing with the beefy 1 7/8 inch pinion shaft. The rear end is fitted with the original 3.23:1 open differential. All of the serial numbers are documented below the item description in the included photos.
The body of this Road Runner is in astounding condition considering its age and is 95% rust free. There are a few small rust holes in the lower passenger quarter panel as pictured. This area has only become rusted in the outer skin and has not protruded to the inner sheetmetal. There is a very minimal amount of rust beginning beneath the rear window as shown. These are the only 2 areas on the car needing any repair beyond typical prep work before a repaint and are very common areas on these B-body cars. This is a 100% original sheetmetal car and retains beautiful panel alignment throughout. The doors open and close with minimal effort and truly have that "new car" feel when opening or closing them.
This car has had one repaint since new in its original Sunfire Yellow color. This appears to be a 1980s era lacquer repaint. Much of the paint has been compromised as pictured, showing the bare primer beneath. It would take very minimal effort to completely strip this car.
The interior of this car is all original down to the radio and retains every factory equipped option. The map light and dome light still work. The radio is not currently working. The seat covers, carpets and headliner are in impressive condition considering their age, but will need to be replaced for a proper restoration.
As shown below, this is a very well preserved and original car. It runs, drives and stops well enough to drive around town, but it would be highly recommended to go through this car and freshen things up mechanically. After all, this car has sat for 2 decades since it was last driven regularly.
