Description

This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a true Special Edition car with a survivor-like quality inside and out. But it's more than just history you'll love on this one. Not only is it loaded with everything from T-tops to A/C, but also the motor is a fresh V8 build with just break-in miles. And you control this powerful powerhouse with four-on-the-floor and desirable WS6 package. A genuine Starlight Black Trans Am Y84 SE package with gold trim... has an instant Smokey and the Bandit appeal. But the simple fact is that these were so cool looking that they were destined to be legendary even without Hollywood. This car is not only factory-correct, but the paint package is believed to be original. It still has a nice gloss, and it has the right look for people to ask if it's the same factory-applied finish. So this one has a nice bit of history that it wears correctly. Even the low 28,711 odometer is believed to be the actual mileage! We all love the sporty details, and the SE's gold package does a terrific job of highlighting it all on the Endura front bumper, hood scoop, fender flares, full-width rear spoiler, and iconic snowflake wheels. And of course, no T/A would be complete without the hood bird boldly leading the way. Inside is a selection of the ideal features. The T-tops are perfect for everything from displaying your T/A at car shows, to just letting everyone else notice the grin on your face when driving through town. On any hot day, the cloth seats are the perfect pairing, and the gold undertones coordinate with the accessory colors inside and out. It's truly an impressive package. The driver gets to face iconic components like the Trans Am's special three-spoke steering wheel and the machined aluminum dash with the Rally gauge package that includes the cool tach/clock combo. This came loaded with great power features from the factory, like power steering, power locks, and power windows. Plus, there are some great upgrades that are nicely integrated. For example, the stereo is a retro-style AM/FM digital tuner now with a CD changer. And the factory air conditioning is blowing cold with modern R134a. But your favorite part will be the option that's missing: the popular automatic transmission option. That's right, even the Bandit didn't get the kind of powerband control that you have with the four-speed manual. If the motor looks particularly nice, it's because this was recently professionally rebuilt. In fact, there are only about 10 break-in miles on the motor. This was born with the big 400 cubic-inch V8, and so it's great to have an era-correct powerhouse still under the hood. It has a mild cam, proper 6x4 heads for high compression, and a four-barrel carburetor living under that shaker scoop. The full force of this sounds amazing as it leaves the dual exhaust. But don't just listen to the rumble; follow its path in the undercarriage photos. There you'll see this T/A was ordered with the special WS6 handling package. It includes front & rear sway bars, a tighter steering box ratio, and four-wheel disc brakes. This option made the Trans Am the favorite of most automotive magazines back in the day. Plus, with the four-speed and the limited-slip rear, this is a terrific total sports car package. The sale comes complete with the factory buildsheet, reproduction window sticker, and Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documentation. We all love the look of these black with gold T/As but very few of us will ever have the opportunity at one this interesting. Call now!
