Description

For sale is a beautiful 914 Porsche. I picked it up because I always wanted a 914 and she looked like a great candidate for air cooled and Porsche car shows. Plus, Porsches are skyrocketing price wise so, I wanted one of these before they go off the charts. I already have a 911, 356, and a 912 that I take to shows so, it made sense to add this one to fill out the collection? Unfortunately, I just picked up another 1950 356 Cabriolet that I couldn't pass on and the garage isn't big enough for all of them.
The one thing about the 914 is, it's probably the most friendly to work on of all the Porsches. Everything is straight forward and reasonably accessible. Here are some of the details:
  • All interior dash lights and exterior lights including: running lights, brake lights, turn signals, and back up lights, updated to LED except the headlights which are new Sylvanias.
  • Had it repainted earlier this summer in the original Sunflower Yellow. It was an easy job for the shop, no rust, no dings. Always garaged by me as well as by all the previous owners.
  • New interior carpets and carpet pads (sound deadening) and new vinyl on the inside of the door panels as well as the garnish rail. Seats are fine so I didn't reupholster them.
  • Dash pad is in great shape. Looks like she never sat in the sun for that long. The vinyl just in front of the dash pad should be changed at some point. I received it from 914 Rubber, just haven't had time to install it.
  • New chrome wheel trim rings.
  • New Porsche hood crest.
  • New PORSCHE lettering on the rear grill.
  • I replaced about half of the rubber gaskets including the big one where the top meets the windshield. The other seals are in good shape.
Now, onto the engine. She runs great and shifts nicely. New plugs, and the rotor was recently replaced, and timing was set. She is fuel injected so, that eliminates hard starts. She has a Monza exhaust which I like. The exhaust is a bit beefier sounding than stock and is a bit freer breathing. Probably worth a few horsepower more. Even if you don't pick up any extra horsepower, she sounds great! The one thing I haven't had time to do is the rear deck lid needs new rollers for the torsion bars which hold it up. If I can, I'll replace them before she ships. I think the bars are about $25 each (2 needed) and the rollers (2 needed), are probably $5 each.
I was prepping this for car shows so, she is well on her way to competing for a trophy. One of the previous owners removed the A/C. Even for the sake of originality I wouldn't replace it. By deleting it, it takes a nice bit of weight off the car and, you are driving a targa so, there is little use if any for A/C. I've included a few shots of the under carriage. From what I can see it looks clean. I haven't put it on a lift but, if it's like the rest of the car, it should be tight.
Can't think of anything else that be of help. She is a lot of fun to drive and looks great. Of course, she is 40 something years old so, there is some age to her here and there. BTW, I purchased new floor mats with the 914 embroidered in them. They are tan and the 914 is in black.
Good luck bidding!
