FIRST, AN EXPLANATION ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY IS A MERA, AND WHAT MAKES THIS A VERY RARE, UNIQUE PART OF AMERICAN AUTO HISTORY.
THIS AUCTION IS FOR A 1988 PONTIAC MERA. THIS CAR IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN A 308 KIT/REPLICA, IN FACT IT IS NOT A KIT. IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY BUILT BRAND NEW STRAIGHT OFF THE PONTIAC SHOWROOM FLOOR. THIS CAR HAD TO BE PURCHASED/ORDERED STRAIGHT FROM A PONTIAC DEALER IN 1987-1988. A BRAND NEW FIERO HAD TO BE BOUGHT & THEN THE UPGRADE TO THE MERA ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WOULD THEN BE PROFESSIONALLY BUILT BY CORPORATE CONCEPTS IN MICHIGAN. THE RESULT OF THIS IS A CAR THAT HAS MUCH BETTER CONSTRUCTION & WITHOUT THE USUAL IMPERFECTIONS FOUND IN AFTERMARKET "KITS". CORPORATE CONCEPTS WOULD NOTDO THIS CONVERSION ON ANY USED FIEROS, ONLY BRAND NEW PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM PONTIAC DEALERS! THE COST WAS HIGH ESPECIALLY FOR BACK IN 87/88, TYPICAL INVOICE WAS AROUND $30K (WHEREAS A NEW FIERO WOULD BE AROUND $13K).
BECAUSE OF THE STRONG SIMILARITY TO A PARTICULAR ITALIAN EXOTIC, LEGAL ISSUES FOLLOWED, & ULTIMATELY PRODUCTION OF THE MERA WAS ORDERED TO CEASE IN 1988. DUE TO THIS FACT, ONLY 247 WERE EVER MADEOVER A 2 YEAR PERIOD. MANY HAVE DISAPPEARED OVER THE YEARS, BEEN WRECKED, & SOME WERE SHIPPED OVERSEAS. AS A RESULT, VERY FEW OF THE 247 STILL EXIST TODAY, AND EVEN FEWER IN GREAT SHAPE.
THIS ONE IS #8808, OR THE 8th OF THE PREFERRED & FINAL YEAR, 1988.

IT ALSO HAS THOUSANDS IN UPGRADES THAT WERE DONE TO IT, INCLUDING SWAPPING IN A 3800 SUPERCHARGED MOTOR, AND HAS THE RARE UPGRADED MERA OPTIONAL INTERIOR WHICH VERY FEW MERA'S HAVE. A Note About 1987 Versus 1988 Mera's:
In general, all Mera's are rare & of value if in great condition. However, the 1988 Fiero was improved greatly by GM in its final year, especially in terms of handling & suspension, which was similar to the Lotus design. All cars typically hold the highest value in the final year model of production. It is a documented fact that even in terms of Fiero value & collectibility, the 1988's do hold the highest value by far.
So, when you consider that, it is obvious as to why this would also make a 1988 Mera just that much more desirable than an '87 in the same condition, if all things are equal. Also, the Chromodora wheels were included on the 1988's, not the '87 Mera's.

TheONLYreason for this car being offered is because I am relocating back out to the Las Vegas Area. Due to the financial burden & logistics of moving, I am selling this incredible car, which I never planned to sell. A very hard decision for me. BOTH ARE VERY CLEAN, SEE PHOTOS!ALSO, FLYWHEEL WAS PROPERLY MATCH BALANCED TO THE ORIGINAL FLEXPLATE THAT CAME ON THE ENGINE. MANY 3800 SWAPS DO NOT HAVE A MATCHED FLYWHEEL, THIS WAS PROFESSIONALLY DONE. THE CLUTCH IS A SPEC STAGE II CLUTCH.

4)EIBACH LOWER SPRINGS WERE INSTALLED & LOWER THE CAR TO WHAT IS THE PERFECT HEIGHT! THE WHEELS FIT PERFECTLY IN THE WHEEL WELLS & GIVES A GREAT LOOK! ON THE REAR WHEELS, SPACERS WERE USED TO BRING THE LOOK TO WHAT IT SHOULD BE. THE SPACERS ARE NOT CHEAP JUNK--THEY ARE CUSTOM MADE FROM GOOD QUALITY ALUMINUM & HAVE THEIR OWN STUDS BUILT IN.
5)THE A/C IS ALL NEW, WORKS GREAT & BLOWS ICE COLD!! IT HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO R134A. WHEN THE CONVERSION WAS DONE BY THE PRIOR OWNER, NO EXPENSE WAS SPARED. IT WAS DONE PROPERLY, THE DRYER WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW R134A COMPATIBLE DRYER & VARIABLE ORAFICE TUBE. IT USES THE 3800 A/C COMPRESSOR & HAS NEW LINES PROFESSIONALLY MADE TO CONNECT THE 3800 COMPRESSOR TO THE FIERO A/C SETUP. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE MANY WITH NON WORKING A/C, AND BAD EXCUSES AS TO WHY!!

THE EXTERIOR OF THIS CAR IS IN VERY NICE SHAPE. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS. THE PAINT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION OVERALL, CONSIDERING ITS AGE. THERE ARE SOME IMPERFECTIONS THAT CAN BE SEEN UP CLOSE IN THE PAINT, BUT THEY ARE MAINLY MINOR IN NATURE AND DO NOT DISTRACT FROM THE OVERALL BEAUTY OF THE CAR AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE PHOTOS. THIS CAR LOOKS GREAT! THE BUMPERS ARE IN NICE CONDITION. WHEELS ARE THE ORIGINAL & VERY RARE CHROMODORA WHEELS FROM ITALY THAT CAME WITH 1988 MERA'S, THEY ARE IN GREAT CONDITION. CARPET IS GOOD, SEATS WERE UPGRADED TO LEATHER AS PART OF THE RARE MERA INTERIOR UPGRADE OPTION FROM THE FACTORY. THEY ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, THEY SHOW MINOR WEAR/IMPERFECTIONS, BUT NOT BAD BY ANY STRETCH, THESE ARE ORIGINAL FROM '88. AIR CONDITIONING BLOWS ICE COLD & WAS COMPLETELY REDONE & REPLACED! CAR IS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH POWER LOCKS & WINDOWS, ALL WORK FINE. AS MENTIONED BEFORE, ALL FOUR TIRES ARE NEAR NEW TOYO PROXES TPT, MATCHED SET, FRONT 215/60R15 & REAR 225/60R15.
