1960 SAAB 93F 750cc 3-speed w/Sunroof
Description
Up for auction here is a 1960 SAAB 93F that I purchased from a gentleman in upstate New York near the Vermont border 19 years ago.The car has not been on the road since 1968 but is now registered and inspected in NY. This has been a very long term project intended to create a basic running vehicle, nothing fancy, just a car that looks good and works as it should. No concours restoration here. When I bought the car it had been sitting in a barn for 31 years after having been used for ice racing for some period. Based on where it lived and how it had been used there were numerous rust issues; front floor, doors, inner fenders, rear shock mounts, gas tank etc. The rear fenders were replaced and all other rusted areas were patched with welded in sheet metal; some body filler was used to smooth things out. Paint is decent but, again, not a serious show quality job. A new head liner for both the main roof and the sunroof was made and installed using the old ones for patterns. The brakes were completely rebuilt with all new shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, hoses, emergency brake cables and a sleeved master cylinder. Tie rod ends, ball joints, suspension bushings and shocks are new as well. The clutch is new. The carburetor has been rebuilt. The fuel pump is a new SU electronic unit that looks and sounds like the original. The front and rear mufflers are new. A number of the replacement parts, including bumper sections and overriders (and floor mats) were purchased and imported from the SAAB club in Sweden. The water pump/generator is a rebuilt unit from a SAAB parts specialist in the former East Germany. Current or potential issues: The driver's side sunroof latch has decided to be non-functional although it worked fine a month ago; there have been only 15 or 20 miles on the engine and transmission since the car was registered and, since they were not rebuilt, it is unknown whether they will need work, they seem OK so far. As stated in the listing, there is no warranty, specific or implied. You buy at your own risk. The car will need to be shipped as I personally would not drive it for any distance until it has more miles on it.Beyond this, there are a large number of spare parts included. Almost anything except body parts and internal engine and transmission parts is in the collection. Also included are a few SAAB specific tools such as an original drum puller, and a piston height gauge for finding top dead center.Feel free to ask questions about anything mentioned here or anything I haven't mentioned that you want to know about. You're welcome to come see it if you're in the area.
