In the world of Mustangs, there are cars that have great street presence. And then there are cars, like this sinister Shelby GT350SR, that are wicked manifestations of high octane and pure adrenaline! Authenticated by Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc., listed in the Shelby Unified Registry and featured in the January, 2006 edition of Mustang Monthly Magazine, this killer pony could be the ultimate small block Ford. With one twist of its key, 427 cubic inches of Shelby Performance V8 roars to life, shattering any thinly veiled subtlety into a million pieces. When its rubber bites the pavement, a custom suspension and beefy Tremec 5-speed afford a steady diet of modern performance poseurs that's seasoned with the occasional golden age classic. And if you're looking for some pedigreed metal that crosses legendary heritage with fresh DNA, it's the stuff your dreams are made of!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Like so many things modern-era Shelby, the story of this continuation GT350 is a bit of a convoluted tale. But, like so many things classic-era Shelby, that story is part of what makes the car so cool and so collectable. Back in 2006, Shelby authorized Dallas' Unique Performance to build 40 GT350SRs to commemorate the 40th anniversary of both the GT350R and 427 Cobra. Unfortunately, that was about the time Unique Performance collapsed under financial strain. That meant GT350SR number 40, decked in slick DuPont Hot Hues 2-stage, ended up being even more exclusive than originally planned. And today, this well-documented Ford rolls as one of the coolest, fastest and most lust worthy Mustangs on the planet!

Shelby's GT line threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang design cues ever created. At the leading edge of this slick coupe, small parking lamps and bright halogen headlights front a billet, Mustang-branded grille, which lines a familiar, competition-style fascia. At the top of that grille, polished lanyards pin a fiberglass hood in front of fresh glass that's framed in straight trim, polished wipers, satin-finish mirrors and correct plexi quarter windows. At the sides of that greenhouse, rowdy pipes and color-keyed stripes frame aggressive side scoops and traditional, satin-finish door handles. And at the back of the car, satin-trimmed taillights illuminate a pinned decklid, a custom cobra emblem and a color-keyed bumper.

ENGINE

Professionally assembled and fully detailed, this pony's bored and stroked Shelby Performance 351 utilizes 427 cubic inches of displacement to create a stout 585 horsepower. At the top of the aluminum mill, polished K&N stacks punch air in to 42 psi of high octane fossils thanks to quality DC&O fuel injection, stainless AN fluid lines and a small Auto Gage pressure gauge. A resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a lightweight aluminum intake to aluminum Shelby heads, which ride under polished, Shelby-branded valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster HVC coil, MSD 6AL ignition and thick Ford Racing plug wires. Spent gases roar through coated JBA headers. A polished Griffin cross-flow radiator, mounted between an aluminum Ford water pump, a polished Canton overflow and two electric fans, provides the brutal engine's cooling. A polished Powermaster alternator spins above cool air conditioning and convenient power steering thanks to quality Concept One pulleys. And overall, the car's textured engine bay is exceptionally well done, featuring details like Unique Performance bracing, a fully finished hood and a REDLINE Fuel Management system.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

At the bottom of this Mustang, a freshened undercarriage houses solid, undercoated floors that are bolted to a roster of top-notch components. Behind the buff small block, a tough hydraulic clutch engages a slick Tremec 5-speed, which twists a hooped aluminum driveshaft. That driveshaft jerks a proven Currie 9-inch that's fitted with 3.25 gears, 31-spline axles and a Truetrac differential. That rear end rolls on a Unique Performance laid-over suspension, which tailors adjustable QA-1 coil-overs to high quality mini tubs. Opposite that clip, a Unique Performance front-half centers Chassisworks power rack-and-pinion steering between two more QA-1 coil-overs. Braking is equally class, with "SHELBY" branded Baer calipers, single-piston PBR calipers and four drilled and slotted rotors benefitting from adjustable proportioning and beefy Shelby ductwork. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases in to 2.5-inch Unique Performance pipes that employ an H-shaped crossover and tough SpinTech mufflers. The juice hits the jets thanks to an electronic fuel pump, which siphons a 22-gallon stainless cell. Torque shakes the ground through 17-inch Foose blades, which twist 245/40ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 315/35ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. And everything, from this coupe's deep-sump oil pan and blowproof bellhousing to its Unique Performance subframe connectors and adjustable Baer tie rods, contributes to an unforgettable driving experience.

INTERIOR

Open the doors and you'll find a striking blue cockpit that's benefitted from a number of stylish and functional upgrades. Front-and-center, SCAT Shelby signature hi-back buckets stretch tight vinyl hides under a 4-point roll bar and 5-point G-FORCE safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a padded, dual-cowl dash centers Shelby signature telemetry and crisp Sony audio behind glossy silver trim and levers for Old Air Products Hurricane climate control. Below that dash, color-keyed carpet anchors themed floor mats between Shelby-branded pedals, a polished fire extinguisher and a billet Shelby shifter. At the sides of that carpet, 'layered' door panels feature clean stainless trim and bright chrome handles. In front of the driver, a 15-inch Lecarra steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fifth Foose wheel fronts a clean trunk that hides a powerful Optima battery.
