1993 Toyota MR2 2.2L 5S-FE SMG Hardtop/Sunroof Automatic NO P/S or ABS CLEAN
Description
FYI The car actually has a CLEAN title but I have to list it as Salvage since EBAY recognizes it as having a salvage brand at some point which is most likely an error or a theft report as the car has no accidents reported.
For whatever reason after the last few cars I sold to get funds for the upcoming wedding all my friends want me to sell their cars now. I'll make this quick and simple because I have a lot of other stuff to do lately, summer is here, the heat is up, and people are getting crazy. I feel like the temperature correlates to people's sanity in larger cities. Price is firm and fair for a great chassis to do a turbo/V6 swap into or just use it as a no fuss reliable good MPG daily driver.
From what I've been told it is a fairly rare MR2, it is a 1993 187 color code Steel Mist Gray (SMG) chassis with Sunroof and NO ABS NO POWERSTEERING from the factory. With an Automatic. Not a common combination, almost all of them are red or white with power steering ABS T-Tops and a manual transmission.
Car comes with a carfax, 5 owners total which is average for a car this old, first owner had it until 2006 and it was serviced at Toyota dealers up north in PA. At some point it was hit with a salvage brand record on carfax records up in PA but no records of any accidents, all I can figure is that it is an error or it was stolen and the insurance company auctioned it when it was recovered. All the body panels line up doesn't look like it was been in a collision. Then it came down to NC with a CLEAN TITLE, SC, and back to NC all CLEAN TITLES which it now has. Not sure what went on back in PA in 2006 but it is clean now and that happened like 3 owners ago. Just figured I would disclose that in the effort of all honesty.
Car is really fun to drive, being a 1993 it has the revised suspension, body work, wheels, and MUCH BETTER 5S-FE 2.2L DOHC engine. The 92' down 5S-FE non turbo engines were much less reliable they got rod knock and sludge issues if they weren't taken care of very closely. The 93'+ engines had a ton of revisions and have more power/reliability. Which is why this one still runs great with a decent amount of miles on it. This car has been a daily driver most of its life which is usually a good thing since they get more maintenance and seals don't have time to rot out from sitting. I have owned several manual transmission non-turbo MR2's and I 100% believe this one is faster, the automatic cars have lower gearing and it is definitely quicker off the line and feels more peppy if that is a thing that is measurable. Oh and it is a sunroof SMG 187 color code car! Which is more common on non-turbo cars but still fairly damn rare and much more desirable than the T-Top cars. More rigid chassis and less water leaks but you still get some glass in the roof vs the even more rare hard top cars, a nice balance I think.
Interior: Interior wise the car is in really good condition, not too many flaws. No cracks in any of the glass that I can remember, all of the gauges work great, the radio and the heat + A/C works fine. The A/C needs a little freon added each year to really cool down, it is running so-so right now just add some R134 freon and you'll be back to cold, it works great when charged up. Sunroof pops up and down no issues, all of the switches and such work great except the master window switch. The power windows sometimes don't start working unless you tap the switch or let the car warm up it just has loose contacts in the master window switches, the power door lock button doesn't work on the left side. It has an old school Sony CD Changer that doesn't currently work but the radio works fine. No warning lights on the dash, the reverse indicator light is burned out but that is an easy fix. E-Brake works fine, the headrests on the black leather seats came loose at the bottom due to the leather shrinking. The drivers seat has a little bolster wear but no bad tears anywhere in the interior, it is pretty darn clean, missing the factory floor mats. No cracks in the dash, dash is in good condition compared to most other MR2's.
Exterior: Exterior wise somebody was either drunk or just straight up cannot make a good decision. For some reason that eludes me (probably clear coat fade) someone painted the car, and not even the right color (or just did a really bad job with the right color). This is a legit original SMG (Steel Mist Gray) 187 color code car, which is a rare color in the USA. There were two colors that were 1993 only, blue metallic and some teal color. The blue metallic code is 8J2 which is much closer to what this paint looks like, but it is also fairly close to the 187 SMG color so I have no idea what happened. Whoever did it should have their drivers license revoked because they did a horrible job painting it. The paint job looks great in pictures and great from 15 feet out, but up close if you know what you're looking for it sucks like a maaco job. For whatever reason they cut the left side of the front bumper put a little gouge in it no idea why. There is a little rust bubble on the right quarter, tiny, a little bit at the bottom of the door if I remember correctly, and a spot in the RR wheel well area but other than that it is rust free, the undercarriage actually looks pretty good with just some surface rust but pretty damn clean for being a PA car. Obvious that it was garaged and not driven in the snow, you'd have to be nuts to drive a mid engine car in the snow anyways. The body itself is straight, the paint is bad. The antenna is sticky, all the lights work, headlights flip up and down no issues, the hood trunk and gas door lid open and close fine as do the sunroof and doors + engine lid. The trunk wont stay open on its own the spring is gone. The engine lid prop and hood prop are both there which is not common. The wheels are in pretty good shape as is all the glass. Going down the road it is a damn fine looking car, if you are going slow enough for people to notice the paint flaws you either suck at driving or spend too much time in drive-thrus.
Mechanical: Mechanically the car needs nothing. Runs great, drives great, does everything you want it to. Fires right up no matter what, no warning lights on, would drive to the other side of the country right now no issues. Tires are good, brakes are good, trans shifts like butter and is firm when it needs to be, engine doesn't leak knock smoke overheat or do anything wrong. Alignment is good, no funky vibrations, no suspension noises over bumps, the car is tight. The engine had its timing belt at 146k, it is all stock and has never been modified all original. It does have some miles on it so it will burn some oil you can slightly smell it but it barely uses any, don't usually have to add any. Could probably use a tune up at some point and a freon charge but overall this is the last category I would worry about.
That is about it, thanks for looking let me know if you have any questions.
